A prelude of familiar carols will begin at 3: 15. The program consists of standard carols, solos and an thems. Among the carols are "Silent Night", "I Saw Three Ships", "Whatts Nativity Carol", "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and "Joy To The World". Anthems included are Break Forth Into Joy and Let Earth Receive Her King. Solos are "O Holy Night" sung by Jonah Whedbee, "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" by Jacob Wills and "Little Babe in Manager Lay" by Janice Layden. Janet Ball, Charlotte Byrum, Margie Rogerson, Janice Layden and Anna Brldgers will sing the West Indies Carol, The Virgin Mary Had A Baby Boy. The public is invited to attend this program of sacred music as -we present the message of Christmas in song. "I Dare You" Award Presented To Outstanding Hertford Boy & Girl Mr. Billy J. Griffin, Assistant Farm Agent presented the "I Dare You" Award to the out standing boy and girl who were Edmond White and Gail Eure. The program was concluded by Sherri Taylor, associate Home Economics Extension agent, who presented the Horace Layden Award to the overall outstanding boy or girl. This year the award was presented to Dianne Layden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Layden, for her outstanding state winning long time record book in Veterinary Science. Currituck County. This was the first year that no prizes were given. One of the reasons was criticism of the idea. So - this year there was some criticism of no prizes. The Chamber office would like your comments on the idea and thought and deed, the Perquimans County Chamber of Commerce feels that cleanliness should also be emphasized. In line with that we are of fering 125 to the business establishment having the neatest and most imaginative Christmas display and annother 125 will go to the family with the hand somest seasonal display. Representatives of all of the communities in the county will make up a committee of five judges and they will make up their minds concerning the winners on Saturday, Dec. 19. Announcements of the winners will be made public in local newspapers on the day before Christmas. The Chamber of Commerce urges business establishments and residents to really 'show off Christmas in our community. Those $25 prizes will make awfully nice Christmas gifts. Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Lucille S. Sumner Mrs. Lucille Stutts Sumner, 48, of 3630 Wedgfield Avenue, Ingleside, died Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in a hospital following a brief illness. A native of Raleigh, N.C, she lived here 38 years. She was the wife of Joseph D. Sumner, for mally of Hertford, and ; a daughter of Mrs. Cleo Hamilton Stutts of Raleigh and the late Arthur C. Stutts. Following many hours of practice, the unit was ready for participation in all of the football games played by the Pirates. Among the highlights of the season was marching in the Oyster Bowl parade in Norfolk, leading the Perquimans County Tricentennial Parade and performing 'at the Christmas parades in Norfolk, Elizabeth City and Hertford. Each girl in the unit would like to thank everyone for the support given them in their work and projects. Chief Majorette this year is Dee Boyce. Director is Mrs. Le Clair Rogerson. Floyd Mathews District Supervisor Floyd Mathews was re-elected for a third term as Soil and Water District Supervisor In the December 3rd special election held throughout the County but week. Hertford Grammar School Setting For 4-H Achievement Program The Annual 4-H Achievement Program was held Mondsy night, November 30 at Hertford Grammar School. Carmen Sutton, President of Senior 4-H Club, called the program to order. Sheron Swindell, presented the welcome, and Lydla Stalllnp led in the pledges of the American and 4-H Flags. Gall Eure gave the devotional. The program was presented by four 4-H'ers. They are follows: Eddie Baker and Sybil Hobbs, delegates to 4-H Citizenship Short Course, and Barry Lane and Rhonda Lane, delegates to 4 H Electric Congress. Perquimans County District Court Convenes Judge Wilton Walker presided at the regular session of Perquimans County District Court Wednesday and disposed of the following cases: William David Moore, charged with fraud, was given a 12 months sentence, which was suspended upon payment 1. of costs of court; 2. pay to office for use of Welfare Department $50.00 monthly until $831.00 is paid. The first payment is to be no later than January 3, 1971, and by this date of each month thereafter; Mildred Lee Manus, who escaped from the custody of Sheriff Julian Broughton following arrest on charges of breaking and entering and larceny, was given a 6 months sentence to be served at the N.C.
