I I McNair Family Reunion ',' I - I' '. S V' . , ' Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kountree of llobbsville announce the engagement of their daughter, Anna Wrae, to Leslie Paul Smith, Jr.. son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Paul Smith, Sr., of , Bt. 2. Hertford. " The wedding will take place June 27,1971, at :t p.m. in the Sandy Cross Baptist Church. v An open wedding service will be observed. The first annual McNair Family Reunion was held at the Elks' Hall in Plymouth, N.C. on May 29.30, 1971. The common ancestor of all 152 relatives present was Rufus McNair and his wife Mariah. The family record compiled revealed that there were 12 children, 77 grandchildren, 185 great grandchildren and many other great great and great great great. These statistics were obtained from only descendants of the eight children of Rufus and Mariah who were there. The largest group. 35, were descendants of Shedrick and Emma Jane McNair. The next largest, 25, were descendants of Joseph and Mary McNair followed by 20 descendants of Christopher and Cora McNair. Relatives hailed from New York. Delaware. Virginia, and all sections of Northeastern North Carolina. The McNairs were traditionally farmers. Many neW brick homes stand magnificently on McNair land handed down from Rufus and Mariah to their twelve children's descendants now living in Washington County, N.C. In addition to farmers, there are skilled artisans, ministers, teachers, public school and college students, government employees. members of the armed forces, and specifically, one judge (Judge Clifton E. Johnson of Charlotte), one lawyer (Atty. Nathaniel Belcher of Durham), and one Ph.D. Dr. Louise N. Sutton of Elizabeth City State University). Dr. Sutton is the only McNair descendant " living in Perquimans County. Announce Adoption Mr. and Mrs. Dean Britt of Newport News, Va, announce the adoption of a daughter, Joy Orena. born November 17, 1970 and arrived Monday, May 24, 1971.
