In those days of innocence, it seemed that my greatest love should so to Mother and Father. They gave me life, love and visible physical needs that seemed all-Important - But what I did not understand was that this life of mine came directly :: from God through my parents. I had tried to separate God's love from the lore of Mother and Father. It was through Him that they received. the great gift of human love. C GOD REQUIRES ECONOMIC JUSTICE : Inttnulleaal Sunday School Leraa for June M, 1171 MEMORY SELECTION. "Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; defend the fatherless, plesd for the widow." - (Isaiah 1:171 v LESSON TEXT: MteahJiJ. The Book of Micah Is perhaps cm of the ahortest books in the Bible as we know it today. Yet it it one of the most telling . when It comes to preaching Divine doctrine. For Mlchsh's , message contained the embodiment of Christ's life on earth. , . Justice for the oppressed, compassion for the poor and the sick. ' . Micah -u were so many of Ood'ssdvocstes-wasaman of humble beginnings; perhaps they were chowm for this : ry reason, tor fhey were simple, unsophlsttcsted men who compassion and sensitivities had not been blunted by af fluence. Living close to the earth, they saw beauty in God's handiwork instead of the tinsel and glitter of things artificial. They respected themselves, and therefore respected others. Christ, Himself, was an ardent defender of the poor and the oppressed. The prophets followed suit. Men'of conscience, they were sorely needed in the days and times in which they lived. A conquered country always faces repsrstion to the victor, ' both socially and economically, and Judab waa no exception to the rule. Heavily taxed by Assyria, hsr people, rich and poor alike, lived la difficult times. The rich, however, were sole to replenish their depleted coffers In various ways. , .the most common of which being further oppression of the hefbless. Lands and households were often seized forcibly, and many a family was rendered homeless "by humanity's most besetting sins - greed and self- aggrandisement. - These were the circumstances In the midst of which Mkah's voice was raised in protest A dedicated and ethical man, he must have carried greet weight with the ruling classes, for It is on record that through his ministrations Henkiab heeded his counsel and Saved Jerusalem from judgment (Jeremiah M: 18-19). ' taicah denounced expMtatioa In any shape or form. He warned that as man devised evil against others, so would God deal with the evildoer. Man waa fighting a losing battle when he dared to pit his puny efforts against the majestic processes of Divine Justice. . Man's capacity for self-deception Is aptly Illustrated n the fact Uiat those verv .people who Incurred Micah's wrath considered themselves religious in every sense of the word. They strictly observed the rites and formalities of worship, yet repeatedly rendered their actions meaningless by acting contrary to their professed creed. But, as has been pointed out before, mere lip-service will not arouse God; He sees Into people's hearts, and la moved accordingly. The true Christian never loses siirht of the fact that there are those less fortunate than he, who need s helolng hand, a I championing voice. The soul in man la love; is compassion. . , Is truly God in mankind! I .
