XjatT Wimii Jr., Okilmu f , Veterans Administration Forecasts that 1972 would be a big year for GI home loans were borne out during the first three months as last year's first quarter records were topped by 123 per cent, according to H.W. Johnson, Director of the Winston-Salem, Veterans Ad ministration Regional Office. The VA reported that it guaranteed 91,200 loans during January, February and March of this year compared to 40,900 during the same period last year. .-.."' Loans during March reached 33,100, which was 13 per cent over February and 129 per cent over March 1971. Johnson said applications for loans continued to come in at a brisk pace during the quarter as did requests for VA appraisals of homes. Requests leveled off for certificates of eligibility to buy homes with VA guaranteed loans. Applications received during the first three months totaled 89,800 for a 43 per cent increase, and the March figure of 36,000 was 34 per cent up from February and 22 per cent over March 1971. Appraisal requests for the quarter, at 173,500, were up 18 per cent over 1st year, and the March figure of 69,700 was 22 per cent up from February and six per cent over March 1971. Requests for eligibility certificates, at 208,800, were only a 6 per cent increase over the first quarter of 1971, March with 83,700 requests was up 27 per cent over February but down 3 per cent from March a year ago. Johnson said a favorable climate for GI home loans is expected to continue because Administration steps to hold the interest rate for these loans at 7 per cent continue to be suc cessful. It reached 8.5 per cent in December 1970. Those eligible for GI home loans include: all veterans and eligible widows of World War II, Korean Conflict, Post Korean Conflict, Vietnam Era; and wives of servicemen officially listed as missing in action for more than 90 days; and ser vicemen who have served on active duty for at least 181 days. Information on GI home loans is available from VA offices and from representatives of local veterans' service organizations. Soviet confirms two divi sions of moon.
