Over 453,298 people have
viewed the famous Italian
masterpiece painting, Mona

Yukie Tamura, 21, a

the famed Da Vinci
painting was coming to
her city, she took money,'
saved for a vacation, and
visited a plastic surgeon.
When asked what she
wanted, she flashed a pic

masterpiece. Later, she
appeared on television
wearing a medieval dress
and revealing her Mona
Lisa look. To the millions of
viewers, she said, "I'm very
happy with my new face!"
It is God's ultimate in
tention to "change our face"
into the likeness of His Son,
Jesus Christ. So that when
Christ returns we shall be
like Him. While plastic
surgery may well change
our facial appearance to
"look like" Christ's

power of our resurrected
Lord and the indwelling
power of the Holy Spirit to
change us into His true

Have you tried the fishing lately? It
always seems to be good along the Outer

usually there in quantity and variety.

Why don't you pack your favorite

UNTO A PERFECT MAN
It seems to me
That ' from the direst
"wrecks of human life
God builds the noblest
temples for Himself:
It is a strange, grand
thought; He bids us pass
Through deepest shades
with all our hopes laid low,
Or through such weary
days and nights of pain
As seem to separate these
lives of ours
From other lives, until we
find ourselves
Without desire for
anything on earth,
Or joy in that which once
we counted dear;
He breaks the ties which
bound us heart to heart
With all we love, and when
at last we lie
Low at His feet, and only
see His face,
And only feel the love on
which no change
Can ever breathe the
patient, deathless love
Which could not leave us
to the life we chose
Far off from Him, but led
our wandering feet
By such strange ways as
these, to find our rest
By MARION SWINDELL
In a great thaw on one of
the American rivers, there
was a man on one of the
cakes of ice, which was not
yet actually separated from
the unbroken mass. In-his
terror, however, he did not
see this, but knelt down
and began to pray aloud
for God to deliver him. The
spectators on the shore
cried loudly to him: "Man,
stop praying and run for
the shore."
We do not relate this
story to belittle prayer in
any way. We believe strong
ly in the power and com
fort of prayer. But there is
a latent lesson to be
learned in this story of the
man on the ice. It is that
God is not responsible for
any miracle that we can
perform ourselves. He is
not to be expected to
accomplish any task that
we ourselves can do.
When we pray for the
poor, the sick, and the less
unfortunate, have we done
all within our powers to
aid, heal and comfort be
fore we carried it to God
in prayer. .'

Sunday's Church Lesson
' i WHEN IS A MAN
REALLY FREE?
(Acts 26: 19-32)
. History, both religious
and secular, is replete with
examples and illustrations
of those who ' imprisoned
others only to find them
selves the greater slaves.
King Herod had John the
Baptist shut up in prison
but John was free while
Herod was a slave to his
passions and his fears. Nero
was the slave while Paul
was God's free man
shouting, "I can do all
things through Christ which
strengtheneth me," in a
Roman prison. King James
could imprison that humble
tinker, John Bunyan for
preaching the Gospel, but
never was a soul more free.
The lesson today looks at a
man bound before others,
but its easy to see who are
the real prisoners and God's
free man.
THE MANDATE
Acts 26: 19-23
Paul had been in prison in
Caesarea for two years. He
had appeared before Felix,
the governor of Judea.
Although Paul was innocent
he was held in prison
because of the weakness of
Beyond all change,
beyond life's troubled
dreams
He takes our hands, and
lays in them His gifts;
Our hopes, and sets them
on Himself alone;
Our empty hearts, and
fills them with His power;
Then sees in us some
likeness of Himself.

Felix. Two years later Felix
was recalled by Rome and
Festus replaced Felix. Paul
appeared before him and
though he was still not guilty
he was not released. Paul's
only recourse was to appeal
to Caesar in Rome. This he
was allowed to do by his
Roman citizenship.
Before arrangement was
made for Paul to be sent to
Rome. King Herod Agrippa
II came from northeastern
Palestine to visit Festus.
At the request of Festus,
Paul was brought before
Agrippa. Paul related his
conversion experience to the
King. He also related how
the risen Christ had com
missioned him to bear
witness to the small and
great.
Paul's joyously continues,
"Whereupon, O King
Agrippa, I was not
disobedient unto the
heavenly vision." Paul had
received his mandate from
heaven and had been faith
ful in carrying it out. He had
proclaimed the message of
repentance and called upon
the people to turn to God
with works which proved the
changed life. This was the
message the prophets had
preached before him.
Paul also preached that
Jesus of Nazareth was the
fulfillment of the Old
Testament prophet's
message concerning a
suffering Messiah. The Jews
expected a political Messiah
and rejected Jesus because
He did not meet their
desires. Paul preached the
resurrection of Jesus.

THE MADDNESS
Acts 26:24-29
As Paul spoke of heavenly
visions and resurrection
from death, Festus thought
Paul mad. His conclusion
was that Paul's many
studies had turned him into
maddness.
Paul's answer reveals a
calmness and self-control
unlike that of a mad man.
This incident makes one
want to take a closer look at
our world today and ask,
"Who is mad?" Who are the
self-controlled and who are
the ones who have gone
mad?
Paul recognizes that the
king (Agrippa) has
knowledge of these things.
The things of which Paul is
speaking were not done in
secret. Wise men came from
the East to worship the new
King Jesus. Christ was
crucified publicly.
Following His resurrection
He was seen of over 500 at
once.
Paul pressed Agrippa to
make his decision about
Christianity. Agrippa's
question was likely
in derision. Mofatt is
probably correct in his
translation, "At this rate, it
won't be long before you
believe you have made a
Christian of me!" Paul's
answer reveals the sincerity
and earnestness of their
prisoner.
THE MAN
Acts 26:30-32
This whole thing is no
laughing matter with Paul.
He would have them all to
experience the real freedom
