(Ray Ward photo) Homemakers Council Meets In .'. Mrs. Marian B. Frierson was Perquimans County's representative at the ' Extension Homemakers' Annual State Council Meeting in Charlotte, N.C. . September 18-19. The theme of the two-day meeting was "Join Hand Across North Carolina - Extend Them Around The World". Mrs. M.B. Taylor, County , Home Economics Extension Agent accompanied Mrs. Frierson. They were among the 285 women registered for the meeting from all over the state. Following the Wednesday Luncheon Greetings ex tended from the county and city officials. Wednesday afternoon' agenda . consisted of 1973 minutes of State Council i meeting roll call and reports from the seven districts. The progress report on Girl Haven was heard. The Educational Loan Fund report was given. Delegates to National Homemakers Council at Urbana, 111., gave their reports. Wednesday evening dinner program featured the presentation of "Program of Work" which was narrated by Mrs. Brenda Hedgepeth, Fashion Coordinator for Sears Roebuck and Co., Charlotte N.C. Thursday's Events in cluded a 7 a.m. award candlelight breakfast. During the breakfast, Mr. Denver Robinson, Western District Extention Chair man, gave his version of the 23rd. Psalm by film and narration. Larry Hardy, soloist for Station WSOC, sang "How Great Thou Art". Sixteen persons were recipients of A and P silver trays awards, Following the Award Breakfast on Thursday morning, the general and final session of the council meeting was held. On the agenda was constitution, creed treasure report, proposed 1975 budget nominating committee report - election and in stalling of officers. The speaker, Mrs. Frederic G. Grassion of Michigan Associated Club Women of the World, Area Vice-President for U.S.A. who spoke on the subject "I Wonder As I Wonder". Mrs. Grassion a world traveler, said she attended school in Switzerland, met her husband in Cuba, married in London and honeymooned in Holualoa. Mrs. Grassion stressed that the needs of women all over the world are the same although different methods are used. In Africa it takes two days for some women to walk to their meeting, others attend meeting by way of a canoe. Mrs. Grassion said that pennies for friendship keep London's office open and helps to make it possible for Associated Country Women of the World to do the work it does. She stated that the lack of proper food is responsible for ' many illness of the world. Little Library.. The 30-piece. exhibit, featuring the works , of Paula i. Backus.Davenia Solomon and Cynthia R. Wells, will remain on exhibit through Oct. 21. The first to pioneer the presentation of art exhibitions in communities in northeastern North Carolina, the current ECSU Vincent J, deGregorio, Chairman of the Art. Department, "We have, always believed in taking art to the people, so as to further stimulate ah interest in and an appreciation of the arts." Previous off campus exhibits have been held in motels, banks, shopping centers, public parks and elsewhere. A former member of Eastman High School's art club, at Enfield, .N.C., Solomon has the most varied and extensive collection of the three exhibitors. Her 15-piece exhibit includes still-life, portrait, landscape and other paintings in oils, water color, acrylics and collage, as well as drawings in ink and pencil. Keenly interested in capturing the faces of people, four of the works by Wells are portraits' in oils and charcoal. The Hertford, N.C. native also has on exhibit wood carvings and ceramic pieces. The most talented painter of oils appears to be Backus, as five of her six paintings are done in oils. One becomes impressed with "Still-Waters," "Reflect ions of Nature," and "Petals and Shells," as done by the Edenton, N.C. native. responsibilities we hold in our hands. Economists Meet MINNEAPOLIS - Home Economics , Extension Agents Mrs. Paige Underwood and Mrs. M.B. Taylor represented Perquimans County at the 40th annual meeting of the National Association of Home Economists at the Leamington Hotel here, September 24-27. Mrs. Underwood and Mrs. Taylor along with nine other representatives from the Northeast District were among the 1,518 par ticipants. In keeping with the 1974 NAEHE theme "Concern, Challenge, Commitment" & speakers focused on critical social issues, Extension heritage and future directions. Keynote spaker, Dr. Lois A. Lund, dean of human ecology at Michigan State University, discussed recent and anticipated change in the family and suggested new rcles for Extension home economist. The dean expects more older people than children, people to move from urban centers to fringe areas, insufficient housing for many persons, over half the women working outside the home and living costs to rapidly go up because of BRIDGE CLUB MEETS Mrs. G.W.
