Pige &-Th PerqiMmtiu Weekly, Hertford, N.C., Thursday, October SI, 1974 Etcetera By George 'Bowser P!iG;H.S.Studento 1. MakeHonorRoll G 1: ' " The predominent item on .' the agenda at Perquimans i. High apparently stems from ; the homecoming planned for p. November 1. Early last ; - year, a homecoming for i P.C.H.S. was pondered. This i year, with the sponsoring of 'the student council, : homecoming will be a ; reality. Events already . planned, collectively by a ' student homecoming : v committee include a ' parade, a barbeque supper, lj a dance and that , ever . popular football ' game. : Perquimans High will make use of a . homecoming co queens system, one black and one white, to ease racial tension. It is hoped that we, meaning blacks and whites, . are mature enough in our -. relationship with each other to elect one queen regard less of race. Many people, - however are immature and : will vote only for a queen of s their own racial stock, and would be hurt if a girl of the opposite race reigned. Thus the compromising co-queens may idea of prove beneficial. II is an inrlnhitahlp fact that the nominees for queen not only contain a high degree of physical at tractiveness. This is seconded only by their keen intellectual perception, i. Those nominated by clubs : include: Beta Paula Perry, June Jordon; Biology Shirley Lightfoot, . .loannette Jones; Guidance ; Homeria Jennette; Chemistry Ella Sue Chappell, Ruby Felton: Health Dorothy Hurdle, Lynne Rose; F.H.A. Tammy Speaker, Shelia Parker; Student Council ' Debbie Harrell, Bernell ' Garrett; F.F.A. - Olga Simpson, Sue Green; Letter - Cathy Evans, Marian Rountree; Monogram ' Jannette Hurdle, Rita Byrum; Vica Annette Hurdle, Cindy Harrell. Attendants will be elected from the underclasswomen; Parents Weekend At Peace College - RALEIGH - Over 400 ' parents, including several Hertford residents, got a special look at Peace College student life last wekend (Oct. 26 and 27) as 4 they visited their daughters during Parents Weekend at the Raleigh College for ' women. f Local residents visiting their daughters included Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Bryant, " Hertford. f Dr. S. David Frazier, president of Peace College, v welcomed the visitors to campus at the opening ' luncheon on Saturday. ; Parents met Peace professors and staff ' members during a mock 1 class day where parents sat ' in on college classes. Other activities of the annual event included: ELECT AN ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR THE PEOPLE. - NOT AN ATTORNEY FOR SOME PEOPLE. Other react to the initiated homecoming with, derogatory imputations, of failure. It is hoped that the participation in the homecoming activities may have a theraputic effect, on all sardonic students stricken by apathy. Many clubs are indulging in the act of fund-raising. Several are preparing authenic floats for the homecoming parade. After much cogitating, the student council has decided upon the showing of movies and the selling of light bulbs to finance their activites. While the biology club sells candy with consummated skill, the F.P.A. are ped dling magazine sub scriptions. With much . alacrity, Guidance Club members will soon be selling tickets to their an nual horror show. A new tradition is in the making at Perquimans High School. To increase the school spirit at P.C.H.S., the student council will sponsor a monthly room or door decorating contest.- The friendly rivalry among participating students in the various rooms will hopefully produce many effective displays. Judging will be based on originality, sim plicity, neatness, and arrangement. First, second, and third place ribbons will be awarded. The room winning first place will also be allowed a party. The homeroom with the most points will receive a grand surprise the last day of school That the students of P.C.H.S. are progressing is undisputable, We ate con stantly on the move striving for the betterment of our school and community. campus tours; a student art display; a student talent revue, "A Musical Mon tage,"; a multi media show, "Man and Nature,"; and a reception hosted by President S.
