Psgt J-The Perqulmant WeKly. Hertford, N.C. Thursday, March 3. 1W7 Letters From Our Readers: Editor's Mailbag TO THE EDITOR: . The article that appeared in the Dec. 30, 1976 issue of the Perquimans Weekly was the results of an interview held for 'the purpose of pointing out problems experienced by , developers in the past. Many of the problems in these coun ties arose because of inadequate regulations available to the developers. Consequently, many of these problems were passed on to the purchaser of the land. ', Much land has been developed within the guidelines of these inadequate existing regulations. This resulted in lots being sold on which no building could be erected because of inability to install septic tanks. The requirements from the department of health services were not clear. This resulted from inadequate research by the state to develop alternates to the conventional septic tank. ' It is my feeling that as a result of the land use planning re quired by the Coastal Area Management Act, many of these problems will be prevented in the future. State and local governments will work more closely together and exchange ' information. This effort should prive beneficial to all con cerned. A closer reading of the Dec. 30 article will reveal the wording "have had," not "have today." The status of "a desirable place to live" enjoyed today by many of the coun ' ties newer communities is a result of the efforts of the peo ple living within. Most are dedicated to improving their areas, not only in their immediate surroundings, but in the county as a whole. '. It has been my pleasure to be associated with many of the ; people from the newly developed communities. This association has been not only as a merchant, but as a local " official and socially. I have found this association very satisfying. ' The points Mr. Wilson made in his letter dated February - 24 regarding the favorable economic impact the newer per , manent and part time residents offer are recognized. I feel, however, the benefits these communities offer go far ' beyond economics. Many have become loyal friends and . have made civic, political and social contributions. In short, these communities are a welcome addition to our ' counties. The object of the Dec. 30 article was for informa tion purposes only, and not for praise of or criticism by T.
