Their glass, ceramic surfaces have no visible burners. So with a flip of the switch, they become a cooking unit or counter top. But this style of range also demands new cooking and cleaning habits on behalf of the cook, re minds Mrs. Edith Mc Glamery, extension house furnishings specialist, North Carolina State Uni versity. So : study the range before buying. Learn what kind of cookware is required, she suggests. Some models re quire special ceramic cookware, ground and pol ished and perfectly flat to capture heat. Other models with high er temperatures require only ordinary cookware, . pots and pans that are reasonably flat on the bot tom and that will stay flat when hot. Remember to examine the warranty before buy ing, the specialist cau tions. Check guarantees on parts, labor and heat ing units. The smooth-top ranges have a good record for strength and durability. And Underwriters' Labo ratories have tested a number of models for durability and electrical safety. So look for the UL symbol. Smooth-top ranges come only in white and will stain if spills aren't ..quickly wiped up. A : special cleaner-conditioner should be used on it often. PQDGfl ALL LABIGS av-.n Classifieds.
