"This year's theme, When We Care,' will help each to examine his own motives and actions in the conservation of God's manifold gifts,", said Mr. Mathews. "We hope, that during Soil Stewardship Week: millions of Americans will pause for a moment to consider their responsibilities for the pro tection and proper care of the Lord's earth," stated Mr. Mathews. Members of the Per quimans Soil Stewardship Committee, are Floyd Mathews, Elmer Lassiter and Carroll Williams. The District has provided local churches with a reference booklet, and bulletin inserts designed for this year's observance. The material was prepared by the Soil Stewardship Ad visory Committee of the Na tional Association of Conser vation Districts. The ad visory committee is com posed of church men of various faiths. This is the 23rd con secutive year that the Na tional Association of Conser vation Districts, along with almost 3,000 local districts throughout the nation, has sponsored Soil Stewardship Week. The custom of setting aside special - "Rogation Days" for this purpose began more than 1,500 years ago in France, when French peasants prayed for help after crop failures had brought widespread hunger. Ceremony Set RALEIGH - North Carolina Department , of Transportation (NCDOT) officials have announced plans for a June ceremony to inaugurate the State's newest ferry vessel THE GOVERNOR EDWARD HYDE. f The new ferry boat will serve on the Ocracoke-Swan Quarter run, and, once in operation, will make two round trips daily. "The ceremony to initiate the new ferry boat's service has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on June 25 and details for the ceremony are being coordinated with members of the Southern Albemarle . Use them in places where it is difficult to change bulbs. first vessel completely designed by NCDOT Ferry Division engineers, is being built by Equitable Equip ment Company of New Orleans at a cost of $2.3 million. The new vessel will carry up to 300 passengers and 34 automobiles and will be the 15th. vessel assigned to NCDOT's ferry fleet. NCDOT officials report that the new ferry boat is . scheduled for delivery by mid-June.
