Judge John Chaffin
presided at the regular ses
sion of Perquimans County
District Court on
Wednesday and heard the
following cases.
John Lowell Ruble,
charged with driving
under the influence and
improper passing, (State
takes a voluntary
dismissal on improper
passing charge) and the
defendant was given a
ninety day sentence
suspended for 2 years, a
fine of $100.00 and cost,
was told not to violate any
Federal, State, or local
laws for twelve months not
to drive a motor vehicle in
North Carolina until
relicensed to do so. An ap
peal was noted and the
case was placed on the
Superior Court Docket for
trial;
Joel Benjamin Perry,
Jr., charged with permit
ting a motor vehicle owned
by him to be operated by a
person without driver's
license, and failure to
drive on the right side of
the highway (consolidated
for judgment) the defen
dant was given a thirty day
sentence suspended for 2
years, a $100.00 fine and
cost, and was told not to
violate any laws for twelve
months;
Carlington Ray
Creighton, charged with
driving under the in
fluence. and improper
parking, received a
sentence of ninety days,
suspended for 2 years, a
fine of 1125.00 and cost,
was told not to operate a
motor vehicle until
licensed to do so, and not to
violate any Federal, State,
or local laws for twelve
months;
Charges of driving after
consuming amount of in
toxicating liquor and not
haviiig a driver's license
were consolidated for trial
in the case of David Koch
Beasley, and the defendant
was given a ninety day
sentence suspended for 2
years, a fine of $125.00 and
cost, was told not to violate
any Feberal, State or local
laws for twelve months,
and not to operate a motor
vehicle until licensed to do
so;
James A. Williams,
charged with malicious
damage to real property,
was given a sentence of
ninety days suspended for
2 years, a fine of $25.00 and
cost, and was told not to
assault the prosecuting
witness during the 2 year
suspended sentence, and to
pay doctor's bill within
thirty days of presentation
to the Clerk of Superior
Court; '
Tony Parker, charted
with assault, received a
ten day sentence
suspended for twelve mon
ths, and was taxed with
cost ot court, and told not
to assault the prosecuting
witness during the twelve
months;
Victor Askew, charted
with possession of stolen
goods, received a ninety
day sentence for 2 years,
or until he might enter a
branch of Service of N.C.
Government, a fine of
$100.00 and cost, was told
not to violate any Federal,
State, or local laws for
twelve months, and not to
go on school property ex
cept by permission of a
school authority and to
reimburse the State for
State appointed attorney;
An appeal was noted and
the defendant was released
to the custody of the Rev.
London;
Clarence Clifton
Williams and Carolyn
Bullock Williams, were
found guilty of fishing
without licenses and were
taxed with cost. Clarence
Williams was taxed with a
fine of $10.00 for operating
a boat without a cer
tificate, also;

guilty ? possession of in

and was given a twelve
months sentence. An ap- I
peal was noted;
Elisabeth Leigh Brown,
charged with assault,
received a thirty day
sentence suspended for 3
years, was placed on pro
bation for 3 years, and the
following conditions ? 1.
pay cost of court; 2. abide
by curfew ? 10:00 P.M.
weekdays and Sundays ?
Friday ? 11:30 P.M. and
Saturday ? 12:00 P.M.; 3.
obey parent she is living
with; 4. under supervision
of Probation Officer ? if
possible, enroll in summer
School ? apply herself ?
cause no disciplinary pro
blem at school or at home;
5. if probation Officer
thinks an evaluation
necessary defendant to
report to Mental Health on
suggestion of Probation Of
ficer; 6. not to consume or
possess alcoholic beverage
or controlled substance
unless prescribed by a
physician; 7. not to assault
mother; and usual
conditions;
Robert Montgomery was
taxed with a fine of 135.00
and cost for an over length
charge;
Charles Wesley Moore
was taxed with a fine of
$35.00 and cost on an In
spection violation;
Pamela Varlan Harrick,
charged with speeding,
was given a thirty sentence
suspended for 2 years, a
fine of $100:00 and cost, and
was told not to operate a
vehicle in North Carolina
until licensed to do so by
limited privilege, and not
to violate any Federal,
State, or local laws;
Rex Bartley LeFever
was taxed with a fine of
$15.00 and cost on a
speeding charge;
Lomas Jones was taxed
with cost for exceeding a
safe speed.
