Association congratulates Weekly EDITOR'S NOTE: I'm sure The Perquimans Weekly that Virginia White published was excellent for its day. It gave the average reader all the information he or she wished to read. Hertford was both the social and commercial center for Perquimans County residents. It was a rare occasion for the people from the "village" to go to Elizabeth Ci ty. I would like to think that today's reader enjoys and is informed by the Weekly's features outside of Per quimans County. Our community has been isolated from the rest of the area far too much and it is thinking such as this that hampers progress which would make a better life for all of us in the county. Of course, someone living outside of the area wouldn't know anything about that. LETTER TO THE EDITOR As Finance Chairman for the Perquimans County Restoration Association, I want to thank you and your, associates for the valuable assistance you have given me in our current $25,000 fund raising effort to restore the Newbold-White House. Without your very generous publicity, we could not have received the $16,010 in con tributions we now have towards this project. Over half of these funds have come from former Perquimans County residents and other interested people outside the county. I want to express my sincere gratitude to all those who have helped, in any way. However, greater support is needed from the local community if we are to reach our goal. I have consulted with William Nixon, Presi dent of the Perquimans County Restoration Associa tion, and we have decided to extend our campaign until December 1, 1978. This will give those, who have not responded, an opportunity to do so and help us on this very worthy project. We should all take pride in the restoration of North Carolina's oldest house, as it will bring untold numbers of tourist and tourist dollars to our area in future years. Several people have approached me about making pledges for this drive, who are not in a position to make a cash contribution at this time. I am very pleased to advise that pledges, payable in six months, are entirely acceptable and will assist in obtaining matching funds from the North Carolina Legislative Grant. PLdges can be made in writing to the address given below or by telephone to my office at 426-5213. Again, I want to thank you, your staff, and especially Kathy Newbern, who has given so generously of her time and talent to this effort. Very Sincerely, R.L. STEVENSON Chairman, Finance Committee Perquimans County Restoration Assoc. \ P.O. Box 318 Hertford, N.C. 27944 Paper is not worth it? TO THE EDITOR: The paper isn't worth two cents a copy. Only twice it was a nice paper, with mostly news from the village of Hertford and Perquimans County was when Virginia White published it. If I wanted Elizabeth City news I would buy that paper. Most of your so called news comes from other papers. If I didn't have property in that town I wouldn't have the paper if you gave it to me. I bet you won't print this note. Mrs. L.V.
