The Perquimans County Board ol Education will not meet June 20, 1983.
Jaycee supper
" The Perquimans County Jaycees will sponsor a Pork Barbeque Supper on
Friday, June 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Perquimans County High School
"" Cafeteria.
" Plates will sell for $3.50 each, with advance tickets accepted only. No tickets
will be sold at the door, so get yours early from any Jaycee member. Pro
ceeeds will be used to help defray expenses of their annual fireworks show on
July 4.

The Albemarle Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 16, in the
ARPDC/Perquimans County Office Building in Hertford, North Carolina.

COSTON
Frank Co* ton, 71, died Sunday In
Albemarle Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted Friday
at 2 p.m. in Porters Chapel A.M.E.
Zion Church with the Rev. Anthony
Hathaway officiating. Burial will be
in the church cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the
church one hour before the services.
Walson Funeral Home is in charge.
The family will be in the home of
his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. William Coston, Route 2,
Hertford.
A native of Perquimans County, he
was the son of the late John and
Louise Riddlck Coston and the
husband of Mrs. Martha Hurdle
Coston.
Besides his wife, he is survived by
a daughter, Miss Gertie Mae Coston
of Kinston; four sons, John W.
Coston, L. D. Coston and Preston
Coston, all of Brooklyn, N.Y. and
William Coston of Hertford.
Survivors also include a sister,
Mrs. Mate Phillips of Philadelphia,
Pa.; three brothers, Miles Coston,
Joseph Coston and Underwood
Coston, all of Philadelphia, Pa.; 14
A Perquimans County man
was arrested last week after
a homemade whisky
distillery was discovered and
seized from his property in
the Bethel Township. Ac
cording to Sheriff Julian
Broughton, Glenn Ray
Harrell, who listed his ad
dress at Rt. 2, Box 66K,
Edenton, was arrested and
charged with distilling
spiritous liquor, manufac
turing alcoholic beverages,
possession of property for
unlawful manufacture, and
allowing a distillery to be set
up on ones land. Released on
$4,000 bond, Harrell's trial
date has been set in July. The
distillery was housed in a

William Charlie Bailey, Sr., M, of
Route 1, G-t Cedar Street, (Snug
harbor) died Monday afternoon in
Chowan Hospital.
A native of Portsmouth, Va. he was
a retired sheetmetal work with the
Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was a
Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters,
Mrs. Sandra Spence of Route 1,
Hertford and Mrs. Julia E. Seeds of
Portsmouth, Va.; three sons,
William Bailey. Jr. of Suffolk, Va..
James M. Bailey and Hubert H.
Bailey, both of Winton.
Other survivors inclde a sister,
Mrs. Catherine Stalls of Portsmouth,
Va.; 13 grandchildren and a great
grandchild.
The body was sent from Swindell
Funeral Home to Sturtevant Funeral
Home in Portsmouth, Va.
Funeral services were not
available at preaa time.
ROACH
WAUANAE. HAWAII? William
Benton Roach, 58, of 85*33 Bayview
Street, Apt. 901, died laat Wednesday
in a Hawaii hoapital.
A native and former reaident of
Perquimans County, he waa the aon
of Mr*. Viola Roach of Route 3,
Hertford and the late John William
Roach and the husband of Mrs. Mitch
Roach.
He was retired from the Navy
having served for 30 years and
recently graduated from college as a
counselor and minister. He was a
Methodist.
Other survivors include a son,
Ricky Roach of the home; three
brothers, John Roach of Orlando,
Fla., Thomas Allen Roach of Camden
and James Edward Roach of Texas.
Funeral services and burial took
place in Hawaii.

Fentreaa McCoy Hill, Sr., tt, a
native of Perqulmana County, died
Friday In a hospital.
He waa a member o f Zlonf
Methodist Church, the American
Legion and Woodmen oi the World.
He waa a veteran of the Amy.
Survivor* include his wile, Mildred
Blanchard Hill; a daughter, Patricia
Scoum of Buenos Aires, Argentina; ?
son, Fentreaa McCoy mil, Jr. of
Winaon-Salem.
Other survivors Include three
brothers, John Hill at Hertford, Joe^

of Chesapeake, Va. and a half
borther, Alphonsa Goodwin of
Norfolk, Va.
Funeral services were held
Monday at S:00 p.m. in the chapel of
the Jack W. Harrell Funeral Home,
Gatesville. Burial followed in the
Family Cemetery.

The Perquimans County Board of
Education will sponsor a Summer
Feeding Program (or children from
June 22 thru July 27, except July 4.
Any person 18 years of age or under
is eligible to participate in this
program. This include permanent
residents, temporary residents and
vacationers who are 18 years of age
or under.
People who are over 18 years of age
who (1) are determined to be men
tally or physically handicapped by a
state or local education agency, and
(2) have participated in a public or
private non-profit school program for
the handicapped during the past
school year, are also eligible to
participate in this program.
No child will be discriminated
against in the meal service regar
dless of race, color, national origin,
sex or handicap and all children will
be served the same meals, according
to LaClaire Rogerson, Perquimans
Child Nutrition Director.
Adults may purchase meals for
$1.50 each. All meals served will
meet or exceed the federal meal
pattern for children. All meals must
be consumed on site.
