Community Calendar FFA Sponsors BBQ Chicken Supper The Perquimans County FFA is holding a Bar-B-Q Chicken Supper on May 18, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The plates are $3.50 each and can be picked up at the high school cafeteria. The profits made from this fund raiser will go to help pay for summer camp, trips to be taken next year and equipment that is badly needed. For more information, contact a local FFA'er or advisor Harrell Thach. Parents Conferences Slated Test scores from the State Annual and Local Testing Pro grams for grades one through nine have been received by Per quimans County Schools. Parent conferences will be scheduled during the week begin ning May 21st in order to discuss test scores. School will dismiss at 1:45 p.m. during this week, and con ferences will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Please con tact your child's teacher or principal for a scheduled appointment. Volunteers honored Miss Hulda Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harrington, and Mrs. Eleanor Richardson, Perquimans County residents, were among the volunteers recognized at a special luncheon given by Chowan Hospital last Friday. Johnny Bryan, Hospital Director, in presenting certificates and service pins to the volunteers, indicated that "these individuals do an excellent job in helping the patients." Hospital records show that 2,961 non-paid hours were contributed by volunteers last year. Duties of the volunteers include distribution of visitor passes, assisting with the discharge of patients, providing exercise, musical and religious programs, helping patients at mealtime, assisting with the Lifeline Program and running other errands too numerous to mention. Jackie Ricks, Director of Volunteers at the Skilled Nursing Facility has worked in her capacity since 1976. Meanwhile, Vickie Leary and Faye Noneman are currently working as co-directors for a volunteer drive at the acute unit. Mrs. Joyce Riddick, President, accepted the Club of the Year Award for the Helen Gaither Extension Homemakers Association. Thirteen members were recognized for perfect attendance. Mrs. Helen Timms of Burgess Extension Homemakers received her Five Year Pin for Perfect Attendance. Mrs. John Elmer Wood, Sr., continued her long record with 42 years of perfect attendance. Others included: Mrs. Isetta Hollowell and Mrs. Thelma Rogerson, 13 years; Mrs. Reba Hurdle and Mrs. SaUie Knight, seven years; Mrs. Alvis Jordan, six years; Mrs. Alice Combs, four years; Mrs. Gladys Gough and Mrs. Manolia Parker, two years; and Mrs. Joyce Riddick, Mrs. Clara Schofield and Mrs. Lynn Hilborn, one year. Mrs. Thelma Rogerson was recently announced Northeast District Winner of the 1984 Delegate at-Lodge and will be attending the National Extension Homemakers Meeting in Louisville, KY in August. Mrs. Marian Frierson, County Council President, presided during the program which opened with Miss Susie Williams giving the devotional from St. Matthew. She encouraged each to use given talents. Mrs. Rebecca Rhodes, Northeastern District Extension Homemakers President, was guest speaker on the topic, "Capture your Self Esteem". She, too, encouraged each to use her talents and think of oneself as an unique, important individual. Mrs. Jessica Tice, Home Economics Extension Agent, Currituck County, showed a variety of window treatments and demonstrated the construction and use of Roman shades. Following lunch served by the Perquimans County Schools Foods Service and Mrs. LaClaire Rogerson, a Parade of Blazers revealed tha achievements of the ladies in thtf Spring tailoring workshops. Department of Natural Resources and Community Development. The Town will apply for $225,000 to undertake an economic development project. The Town intends to use these funds to provide a loan to Ward and Nixon Inc., for the purpose of constructing a warehouse employing 20 full time, permanent employees. The following activities are proposed.
