Parker, Presiding, and Don Carter, Assistant District Attorney Prosecuting. Percy Ray Ward pled guilty to Driving While Impared. He was given six months suspended sentence for two years, special ^supervised probation, and an active term of seven days in the Albemarle District Jail. He was fined $200 plus the cost of court and must surrender his driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court. Larry Wayne Best pled guilty to exceeding a safe speed. He was fined $20.00 plus the cost of ^court. Billy Joe Clark pled guilty of driving while Chauffeur's License revoked. He was given 90 days suspended sentence for two years. Also, he was fined $200 plus the cost of court, and he must surrender limited driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court. i William Edward Cartwright pled guilty to exceeding a safe speed. He was fined $10.00 and the cost of court. Irving Long, Jr. of Route 4, Hertford, pled guilty to Driving , While Impared. He was given 60 days suspended sentence for one year and supervised probation. He was fined $100 plus the cost of court. Also, he must perform 48 hours of community service, submit a $25 fee to the assessment agency, surrender his driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court, attend ADET School and pay a fee as provided by law. Daryl Lewis Bullock pled guilty to Driving While License Revolt and Driving While I m pa red (Consolidated) He was given a 90 day suspended sentence for one year and supervised probation for one year. He was fined $250 plus the cost of court. He must complete 48 hours of community service within 60 days, pay a fee as provided by law, and pay the cost for attending ADET school. Donnell Skinner pled guilty to Driving While Impared. He was given a 60 day suspended sentence for one year and supervised probation for one year under the usual terms and conditions to pay $100 and the cost of court. He must preform 48 hours of community service within 60 days and attend ADET school within 90 days and pay the attendance fee. Also, surrender his driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court and not operate a vehicle on the highways in the State of North Carolina for 12 months. Appeal noted. Joe Willie Brothers pled guilty to assault on a female. He was given a 90 day suspended sentence (or two years. Also, he was fined $50 plus the cost of court and must not assault Johnetta Felton for two years. Gordon Ray Wilder pled not guilty but was proven guilty to assault on a female. He was given a 90 day suspended sentence for two years. Also, he was fined $75 plus the cost of court and must not assault Nancy Wilder for two years. Charles Haywood Lowder pled not guilty but was proven guilty to Communicating Threats. He was given a 30 day suspended sentence for one year. Also, he was fined $50 plus the cost of court and must not threaten or go on the premises of Lester Keel for one year. Appeal noted. Monna Louie Cline pled guilty of exceeding a safe speed. She Former N.C. Governor Terry Sanford presented Lucille Winslow, of Hertford, with the ^ Roanoke Island Historical Association Distinguished Service Award at last Friday's opening of "The Lost Colony." Mr*. Winslow was honored for her long service to the RIHA and Paul Green's drama, going back to her work with the WPA in the 1930's which helped bring "The Lost Colony" into being. Winslow wins distinguished service award By JANE WILLIAMS Lucille Winslow, of Hertfod, was presented with the Roanoke Island Historical Association's Distinguished Servic Award on |j Friday night prior to the opening night performance of "The Lost Colony." Mrs. Winslow, the wife of the late J. Emmett Winslow, currently serves as the Vice Chair man of the Roanoke Island Historical Association, which oversees among other projects the summer production of "The Lost Colony." ^ Prior to holding the office of Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Winslow served as Chairman for the association for three years. The award was presented to Mrs. Winslow by former North Carolina Governor Terry Sanford. Sanford told the group that "the only reason that Lucille had not been presented with the award before now, is that she has always been on the committee to select the recipient. According to Lynn Summeral, Public Relations Director for "The Lost Colony," Mrs. Winslow has always been a staunch supporter, and activist, rather than simply a moral supporter, of all "Lost Colony" activities, including the planned arts center. Mrs. Winslow's record of service does not restrict itself to Roanoke Island. In addition to working on numerous projects in her own community, she currently serves as the Chairman of the Liason Subcommittee of America's Board of Education to sponsor program me Perquimans county Board of Education will sponsor a Summer Feeding Program for Children from June 25 thru July July 37, 1984, except July 4. Any person IS years of age or under is eligible to participate in this program. This includes permanent and temporary residents who are 19 years of age or under. People who are over 18 years of age who (1) are determined to be mentally or physically handicapped by a state or local education agency, and (X) have participated In a public or private non-profit school program for the the past school year, are also eligble to participate In this program. No Child wil be discriminated against in the meal service regardless of race, age. color, national origin, sex or handicap and all children will be served the same meals. There will be no physical segregation of any child. Adults may purchase meals for $1.50 each. She is a past president of the north Carolina Hotel Association, a former member of the Edenton Historical Commission, a board member of the Perquimans Restoration Program, a recipient of the Halifax Resolves Award for outstanding accomplishment in the field of historical restoration, and a board member of the North Carolina Arts Council. Francis Patrick Jones pled guilty to molicious damage to personal property. She was given a 90 day suspended sentence for two years. Also, she was fined |50 plus the cost of court and must pay $100 resistution to Ella Jones and must not go on the premises except by written permission. Roy Jackson Privott pled not guilty but was found guilty to Driving While Impared. He was given six months suspended sentence for five years and supervised suspended probation for three years. He must also serve 20 days in the Albemarle District Jail. He was fined $400 plus the cost of court and must surrender his driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court. Appeal noted. Divorce was granted in the case of Judith Young vs. James E. Young. James Edward Curry pled guilty of larcney. He was given minimum seven months-nine months maximum in North Carolina Department of Corrections. Court recommended he receive psychiatric care during incarceration. Appeal noted. John William Ricks, Jr. pled not guilty but was found guilty of Driving While Impared He was given six months suspended probation for two years and an active term of IS days. He was fined $300 plus the cost of court and must surrender his driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court and must not operate a vehicle on the highway of the State of North Carolina. Also, he must complete ADET school within 90 days and pay the fee for attending. Appeal noted Walter H. Maxey was found guilty of driving with no operator's license, traveling a speed greater than responsble, and obstructing an officer. He was given a 90 day suspended sentence for two years and can not operate a vehicle on the Highways of North Carolina until has a valid driver's license. He was fined $125 plus the cost of court. Douglas Lee Cherrix was found guilty of a stop sign violation and Provisional Licensee Zero Per Se Offence. (Consulidated) He was given a 60 day suspended sentence for one year and was fined $50 plus the cost of court. He must also surrender his driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court. Glinda Whitehurst was found not guilty of injury to personal property. C art wright-Sanders sentenced for arson By JANE WILLIAMS Douglas "Luckie" Cartwright and Larry Wayne Sanders each received a light sentence last week during Pasquotank County Superior Court for their involvement in two cases involving arson, and on other charges. Cartwright, age 36 of Hertford, was sentenced to six months in Albemarle District Jail after a plea-bargaining agreement in which he pled guilty to charges of fraudulently burning an uninhabited building in Chowan County, burning an uninhabited dwelling in Perquimans County and illegal trafficking of cocaine. Sanders, age 35, was sentenced to five months in Albemarle District Jail stemming for his involvement in the burning of the Perquimans County house, owned by Bonnie D. White. He also received a five year suspended sentence and five years supervised probation for his part in the Chowan County burning. Testimony was given by both Cartwright and Sanders against James D. Singletary, of Hertford, Mitchell Duke Ivey, and Peter Rosenthal as part of a plea-bargain arrangement with the state in connection with the Chowan County burning of a house owned by Haymakin International. Testimony given during the Singletary trial resulted in the state gaining a conviction against Singletary for conspriacy to burn and insurance fraud. Singletary was sentenced last March during Chowan County Superior Court to three years in prison. The case in on appeal. Ivey was also convicted, and sentenced to four years, suspended, and five years supervised probation in connection with the fire. Rosenthal pled no-contest in Dare County Superior Court last month to charges against him, and was given a one year suspended sentence, one year unsupervised probation and a $10,000 fine. He was also ordered not to harrass or threaten Cartwright, Sanders or Ivey. Testimony given in the Perquimans County case, led to the conviction of Bonnie D. White for conspiracy to burn and burning an uninhabited dwelling. White was sentenced to five years on the burning charge and six months on the conspiracy charge, to run concurrently. The case is on appeal. Water Safety Team provided for the area The N. C. Wildlife Resources Commission's Water Safety Team for District-One main purpose is to demonstrate how lives are needlessly lost each year in water related accidents and how many of these tragedies could easily be avoided. Topics include in the demonstration are: the correct use of personal floatation devices, emergy situations, the use of clothing to stay afloat, loading equipment and people into a boat, unsafe movement, safety equipment check, boats underway, approaching docks, towing, ; skiing and loading in trailer. Wildlife Enforcement Officers Rocky Branson stationed in Poplar Branch, Jay Blverbark stationed in Edenton, Ron Mason stationed in Plymouth, Ken Craft stationed in lewistoa, Calvin Barnes stationed In Eure, Mike Hatcher stationed in Williamston and Earl Brinkley stationed in Manteo are the members of the District-One Water Safety Team.
