SCHOOL ? Area students named to college Dean's Lists? C.O.A. Eight Perquimans County residents were among 137 College of the Albemarle students who were named to the spring quarter Dean's List because of their high school scholastic averages. The honor list was released this week by Norman L. Norfleet. COA dean of instruction. The numoer of students wno earned the academic honor represents 12 percent of the overall spring quarter enrollment of 1.13* curriculum students. Perquimans scholars make up approximately six percent of the list. Norfleet explained that in order to become eligible for the recognition, students must complete a minimum of 12 quarter-hours of course work with a 3.5(B+ ) or better grade point average, and no grade below "C." The highest possible GPA is 4.0. Barclift receives scholarship BARCLIFT Harrell named to honor list Officials from Martin Community College in Williamston announced this week that James T. Harrell of Hertford was among the fifty-two students named to the institution's honors list for spring quarter. Harrell who is enrolled in the Cosmetology program was among the thirty-one students named to the Honors List which is reserved for students compiling a 3.5 or better grade average. Treating hypertension Hypertension-also called high blood pressure-is a slow and silent killer, but the North Carolina Medical Society says prompt detection and treatment can control ft. Hypertension shows no symptoms, and a person who has it does not feel "sick." Though it's a "s'ilent" disease, hypertension can be a killer if it's not treated. It is a major cause of stroke, heart failure, and kidney failure, but these disorders can be prevented with control of high blood pressure. In most cases of hypertension the cause is not known. But several facors do play a part in the disorder. To control hypertension, a patient must begin a program of proper medical treatment and stick with it even though he or she may not feel sick. Greg Barclift a 1984 honor graduate of Perquimans High School, waa recently awarded the 2nd Annual Scott Williams Memorial Scholarship Award. Greg was chosen for the $200 Scholarship by a panel of (11) eleven faculty members for "outstanding qualities of academic achievement, sportsmanship and moral character at Perquimans High School." All seniors with an A-B four year average are considered for this award, with no application required.
