Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, IMS. "...Time, however, can be easily overcome; not by chasing the light, but by standing back far enough to aee it all at once. The universe is still complete. Everything that ever was. Is; everything that ever will be. is. ..and so on. in all possible combinations." On page MO of "Winter's Tain," from the thickness of the book on left and right the center seems to be appropriately here. Helprim reveals why Peter Lake Is to return after 100 year*; why the Short Tails are still chariag him; why Athensor is not dead, why Jackson Mead, Mr. Mootfowl. and Cecil Wooley are back building bridges. If you can accept such a premise, this book is for you. The beautiful story takes ?? out of the 1Mb century when we we Peter Lake, a second story man, break into the Upper West Side mansion at Isaac captured by the love ot Beverly Penn, who propels him into the tlmelessness of the universe; through the 30th and into the 21st century when New York City begin* to become the iflMril metropolis at great splendor an* promise that everyone has always thought it eoaUha. Of course, there is more to "Winter's Tale" than time travel. In the interim, we can ted the power of wealth, the ultimate control of nature and the omnipotence of the universe. Cliff Towe Ripley, Alexander. "On Leaving Charleston." Doubtoday, ISM. In a continuation of her previous novel, "Charleston," Ripley here describes the exploits of Garden Tradd, the neice of Charleston's heroine.
