Class of *78 sets mini-reunion
Members of the PCHS
graduating Class of 1978 are
planning a meeting on Sunday,
August S at 1:00 p.m. at the
poolhouse of Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Meads.
This will be an organizational
meeting for a social event in
September. Members of the class
felt that last year's reunion went
over so well that * "mini
reunion" this year would be
enjoyable. Interested class
members are invited to attend.
Your ideas and input are
welcomed. Class members may
be asked to help call other class
members (local) because
invitations will not be sent out.
Jaycee calendar sales underway
The Perquimans County
Jaycees are sponsoring the sale
of community calendars once
again. The calendars will sell for
$3 and each listing will be 25
cents. The Jaycees and Jaycettes
will begin their sales August 1st
and continue through the month
of August. If not contacted
during this time please call

Copeland, 426-8385.
Weight reduction class set
You are invited to atend a class
for persons interested in weight
reduction.
The classes will be held
Tuesday, August 14 at 2:00 for
ages teen to 35 and 3:30 for ages
36 and up at the Perquimans
County Health Department.
Each person will be weighed
aqd have their blood pressure
tafcen on an individual basis.
These classes will be
held once per month, and will
last approximately one hour.

calendar and plan to attend this
free class. If you can not attend
and/or would like more
information about these classes,
please call the Perquimans
County Health Department at

Soybean scouting school set
The 1984 Perquimans County
Extension Soybean Scouting
School is scheduled on Monday,
August 6, 1984 at 5:00 p.m. at the
Perquimans County Extension
Office building in Hertford.
NCSU Extension
Entomologists are estimating
that 1984 will be a bad corn
earworm year, the worst since
1978. This school gives the skills
you need to scout your soybean
fields and identify the insect
pests present. You will be taught
treatment thresholds and which
insecticides are most effective
fcp* the corn earn worm.

;The school will be a
combination of on the job
training and classroom
instruction.
Any interested persons are
incited to attend this educational
meeting.
There will be a
sponsored meal. Please call the
Perquimans Extension Office
and let us know if you plan to

Area obituaries
CECIL W. HARRELL
EDENTON? Cecil Willis
Harrell, 72, of Route S, died
Friday night in the Chowan
Hospital.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m.
Sunday in the Rocky Hock
Baptist Church by the Rev.
Donald Wagner. Burial was held
in the Harrell Family cemetery
with Williford-Barham Funeral
Home in charge.
A native of Chowan County, he
was the husband of Mrs. Louise
Thach Harrell. He was a retired
farmer and commercial
fisherman and was a member of
the Rocky Hock Baptist Church.
Other survivors include two
daughters, Mrs. Mary Louis
Phelps of Edenton and Mrs.
Connie Lynn Bunch of Tyner;
three sons, Larry Harrell and
Ronnie C. Harrell, both of
Eden ton and Willis Hay Harrell
of Pensacola, Fla.; four half
brothers. Johnnie Harrell and
Haywood Harrell, both of Gates,
Lindsey Harrell of Windsor and
Issac Harrell of Edenton; and 10
grandchildren.
HAZEL MUMFORD EDWARDS
HERTFORD? Mrs. Hasel
Mumford Edwards, 67, of Route
2, formerly of New Beip. died
Saturday morning in her home
after a long illness.
A native of Pitt County she was
the widow of Samuel Bruce
Edwards, Sr. and a member of
Woodland United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Y. Z. "Elizabeth"
Newberry of Hertford; a son, S.
Bruce Edward,' Jr. of Whitmore
Lake. Mich.; two slaters, Mrs.
Gloria Doudera of Glen Rock,
N.J. and Mrs. Majorie Petring
of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and five
grandchildren.
Graveside servides were held
Monday at 2 p.m. in Gethsemene
Memorial Gardens, Morehead
City. Rev. Tom Supplee, pastor
of Woodland United Methodist
Church officiated. Swindell
Funeral Home, Hertford, was in
charge of arrangements.

Jaycee women attend
officers training school
The North Carolina Jaycee
Women local officer's training
school was held in Raleigh, N.C.
for Jaycee Women Leaders
recently.
Kay Winslow, Jeanie
Etheridge, Teri Copeland,
Marsha Mansfield, and Sharon
Tunnell of Perquimas County
and other state leaders from
across North Carolina were in
Raleigh, July 13 and 14, for their
annual training school of local
chapter officers.
