BPW to sponsor fashion show The Hertford Business and Professional Women's Club is sponsoring a benefit fashion show on October 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hertford Grammar School. There will be refreshments, door prizes, and an afghan, which will be raffled is presently on display at the Morgan Building. Tickets are $2.50 and can be obtained by calling 426-8305 and 426-5206. Registration for Girl Scouts "The Girl Scout program has b?gim its year in Perquimans County. There are four active tripops at the present time. Due to a-shortage of adult volunteers, tliere are a limited number of openings in each troop. -Jrownies: ages 6, 7, 8 or grades 1, 2, 3. PTA to host "Big Shindig" Hertford Grammar School has announced its plans for annual October festival, this yj'ar entitled the "Big Shindig." IHans include festivities and events from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 plm. on Saturday, October 6th. '.Starting the days events will be i yard sale on the grounds of the sebool. Spaces will rent for $10.00 dim can be reserved by calling Jackie Hobbs at 426-7815 or school at 426-7166. A concession stand selling hot dogs, ham biscuits, cokes and Other snack items will be open f|rom 8:00 a.m. until well in the afternoon. A bake sale will also be held with lots of tempting goodies from local kitchens. Another feature will be the country store where handcrafted and handmade items and pickles, jams, and other goods will be for sale. Beginning at 11:00 and continuing into the afternoon there will be lots of gamfes with prizes to keep the children entertained and occupied. Capping off the day's events will be a pig pickin' held from 5:00 ? 8:00 at the school lunchroom. Price of the tickets are $3.50 and will include pork, potatoes, slaw, roll and cupcake. Church St. Hertford, NC Telephone 426-5403 Area obituaries HII.I. Mrs. Alice E. Hill. S4, of 103-H Willow Street (Snug Harbor) died Wednesday evening, September 19. in Portsmouth Naval Hospital. A native of Taylor County, Ga., she was the widow of James Frank Hill. She was a Baptist. Survivors include two sons, Herman Hill of Route 1, Hertford and Fred Hill of Albany, Ga.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Swindell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Nixon officiating. Burial was in Cedarwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Cart Hill. Gary Hill. Richie Hill, Charles D. Hill, Jerry Hill, and Donald W.Hill. WHITE Joseph Walter White, 64, of Route 2, Box 268, died suddenly Thursday evening (September 20). A native of Perquimans County, he was the son of the late John Vance and Eliiabeth Lane White and the husband of Mrs. Addle Mae Ferrell White. He was a planner for the Chesapeake Lumber Company of Elisabeth City, attended the Oak Grove United Methodist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II. Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Clifton (Wilma) Jarvis of Route 4, Hertford; a son, Wilson White of the home; two brothers, Albert White of Elisabeth City and James White of Route X, Hertford; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2: 30 p.m . in the Chapel of Swindell Funeral Home with the Rev. David Goehring and Jam$s Strickland officiating. Burfkl followed in the family cemetery. Pallbearers were Johnny Frank Nixon, Roy Twiddy, Johnny Reid, Curtis Trueblood, Harry Smith, and Edgar White. Albemarle EMC annual membership meeting "Albemarle EMC will be holding its Annual Member Meeting on Saturday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. in Hertford at the Perquimans High School. Members may begin registering at 12:00. The business meeting will start at 2:00 p.m.," said L. A. Harris, Jr., President of the EMC Board of Directors. Members who register before the 2:00 p.m. meeting will receive a Susan B. Anthony dollar. Members who received service in 1970-1971 may also pick up their capital credit check. Manager Dorris B. White stated that the EMC will be refunding some $87,667 to members for the years 1970 and 1971. Members may pick up checks from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. and the after the meeting. The business meeting will include reports from the General Manager and the election of three Directors. A Nominating Committee, comprised of eight members, met on August 9 and the Committee will be presenting the following members for the three vacancies which occur during the business session, the nominees are as follows: District no. 2, Chowan County, Robert Copeland, Route 3, Edenton; Michael Dean, Route 2, Edenton; and Billy R. Albemarle EMC will continue its drive to sign up members for its new load management program. Members who attend the Annual Meeting will have a chance to sign up for load management before and just after the meeting. Albemarle EMC, along with 26 other Electric Cooperatives in North Carolina, have been promoting the North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation statewide load management program for the past six months. According to local sources, this load management system is progressing on schedule. As of September IS, there have been 224 switches installed by EMC. The local EMC covers portions of five counties, Chowan, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Currituck, Camden, and serves better than 6,300 member consumers.
