LOCAL NEWS BPW to sponsor fashion show The Hertford Business and Professional Women's Club will kick off this year's activities with a benefit fashion show scheduled for October 13 at 7:90 p.m. at the Hertford Grammar School. Sherie Woodell will serve as the club's president this year. The other 'M-'tS officers are Janice Cole, vice-president; Helen Felton, secretary; and Bonnie White, treasurer. The Hertford BPW Club is a charter member of the National Sherie Woodell the '84-'85 BPW President is shown addressing the members. Janice Boyce, outgoing president, is shown giving her final address to the group. Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club. Their objective is to address and service the needs of the working women in our community. They are also active in community projects. Traditionally, the Hertford BPW Club has been responsible for sponsoring a candy striping class for the high school, a candidates' night in election years, a young careerist competition and awarding scholarships to two local students. The Club is also responsible for the Christmas tree on the courthouse lawn. In March, the Hertford BPW Club will host the district meeting. The "Harvest of Fashions" seen at the fashion show will be povided by the Albemarle area merchants and worn by local models. Ann Taylor, a fashion expert of national fame will be the commentator. Tickets are $2.50 and can be obtained by calling 426-8305 or 426-5206. Area obituaries BRINN A memorial service for Retired Captain Rufus Timothy Brinn who died Saturday, September 29 while visiting a son in Bremerhaven, West Germany, will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Hertford United Methodist Church. Brinn, 65, of North Front Street, hertford, was a native of Perquimans County, owner of Brinn Family Farms and a member of the Hertford United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Cahoon Brinn; three daughters, U. S. Army Capt. Harriett Brinn of Alexandria, Va., Beverly Brinn and Mary Martha Brinn, both of Raleigh; two sons, U. S. Army Capt. Rufus Timothy Brinn, Jr. of Bremerhaven and U. S. Army Capt. Claudius Ray Brinn of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Jesse Parker Perry of Hertford; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Hertford United Methodist Church, the Perquimans County Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Perquimans County Library and the Perquimans County High School Band. The family will be at the home after the service. HOLLOWELL HOBBSVILLE ? W. Forrest Hollowell, 46, died Tuesday, Oct. 2 in a hospital. He was a native of Gates County and retired from the Navy after 20 years, having served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He formerly was employed at Hobbs-Adams Engineering of Suffolk. He was a member of Warwick Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife. A funeral service was conducted Thursday, Oct. 4 in Warwick Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph Willis. Burial with military honors followed in the church cemetery. CHAPPELL Archie Seymour Chappell, 84, died Monday morning, October 8 in Russell Rest Home. a native of Perquimans County he was the husband of the late Pearl Pierce Chappell. He was a member of the Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. D. M. (Roxanna) Jackson of Winfall and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service were held Wednesdy at 2:30 in Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. W. A. Renfrew and the Rev. Larn Underwood officiating. Burial was in Cedarwood Cemetery. Outstanding volunteers from Perquimans County were honored at the Governor's Statewide Volunteer Awards Ceremony September 25 in Williamston. Speaking of the award recipients past and present, Governor Hunt stated, "Carolyn and I have been deeply moved as hundreds of people have stepped forward to receive their very well-deserved volunteer awards, just as you will do. A jar of honey, still in perfect condi tion, was found in an Egyptian tomb, where it was placed over 3000 years ago.
