LOCAL NEWi A Day to Remember ) Editor's note: The following article was submitted by Grace Costoo of Hertford We thank Mrs. Costoo for her > time and effort in supplying us with this information. ) . When we come to the end of a. perfect day we have a feeling of having accomplished something worthwhile. That is the concensus of opinion of the many people who were involved in the Jill Haskett Benefit that was held Saturday at the Hertford Fire Community spirit was prevalent Saturday as 'people from all over the jjounty turned ot to support the Jill Haskett Benefit ,~Pig Picking at the 'Hertford Fire Department. Jill, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Haskett Jr., is a victim of SCIDS and is a patient at Duke Hospital. (Photo by Jane Williams) Department. Everybody , worked! The cooks had pigs roasting in the wee hours of the morning, and the pots were boiling. The servers were busy fixing plates and delivering them to the people in line. The treasurers were busy selling tickets and receiving contributions. A committee was busy selling chances on a Cabbage Patch Doll. Everybody had a job to do and did it gladly. Jill's parents and grandparents were all working to help those who were befriending their loved one. The fellowship and cooperation went hand in hand. All were in a jovial mood. Nobody seemed tired and irritable. We saw a community in action showing a fine spirit of working together. We also saw as we worked, a dream come true for a child who desperately needs help. We had a goal in mind, and we far exceeded that goal. While we were accomplishing this, we were ever mindfull of the compassionate people in Perquimans, Pasquotank and Chowan Counties, and as far away as Saudi Arabia. I ask you good people, didn't this really mean that we had come to the end of a perfect day?
