Mrs. M. B. Burch, American History Month Chairman for the Edenton Tea Party Chapter DAR, is pictured above presenting a medal to Kaye Long. Miss Long, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin C. Long, Jr., wass the first place winner in the American History Essay Contest for District Eight. The subject of her essay was "The Statue of Liberty ? ' Lady With The Lamp." She is a fifth grade student at Hertford Grammar School. Lunch menus The following is a list of lunch menus for the Perquimans County School System during the week of April 1 through April 4, 1985. Box 277 Hertford, N.C. 27944 wedges, Manager's choice vegetable, peaches Union highlights Recent happenings at Union School include : a Valentine's dance, a sneak preview of the rock group, "Freefare, " from Florida, rooms being painted to spruce up the building's appearance, and the school Science Fair. A variety of very well done projects were placed on display for judging and viewing. In compliance with tornado awareness week activities, students have been drilled in their precautions to take whether at school or not. Seventh grade math students have had the opportunity to understand how the polls are conducted by doing their own at Union. It was a great learning experience for the students in learning more about percentages, decimals, and fractions. This activity also made them realise how important math is used in daily life. The Perquimans Union Boy's Basketball Team finished their season with a 50-43 win over conference from Gates. This assured the Tigers of at least a tie for first place in the Coastal Athletic Conference with a 7-1 record. Their only loss was to Camden early in the year. The Tiger's chief positive point this year was the unselfish play of all the team members. Each starter was a leading scorer in at least one game. With such a diverse attack the smaller Tigers were hard to stop. New starter* were Bennie Everette, JoJo Parker, and seventh grader Cetric Felton. The rest of the squad was made up of Shawn Mailory, Scottie Mitchell, Larry Billets, Henry Felton, Kris Leroy, Jon Ward, and Oscar Wells.
