A health educator trained in the use of child safety seats will be available to answer ques tions and check seats on the fol lowing days: February 24? Perquimans Health Dept.? 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Program set for working women "Women In The World Of Work" is a quarterly newsletter which has been requested by and distributed to approximately 75 working women in Perquimans County during the past year. This publication is available from the Agricultural Extension Service and Home Economics Extension Agents, Page Underwood and Juanita Bailey. A special program for these women is scheduled for Wednes day, March 5, at 7:30 P.M. at the Perquimans County Extension Office in order for them to be come better acquainted and more familiar with the many ex citing and educational opportuni ties available through the Agri cultural Extension Service in Perquimans County. Reed, Sr., of Arcadia, Fla. re cently accepted appointment to a commission in the United States Navy after completing sixteen weeks of intensive training at the Naval officer candidate school, Newport, R.I. Before reporting aboard the USS Northampton (CC-I). homeported in Norfolk, Va., Ensign Reed and his wife Joan are spending a few days with his aunt, Mrs. Fred Winslow, in Winfall, N.C. HERTFORD JAYCEES HON ORED ED NIXON, WILLIAM ELLIOTT: Ed Nixon of Rt. 1, Hertford was named the 1967 Dis tinguished Service winner and William C. Elliott also of Rt. 1, was named the outstanding Farmer of 1967 at a banquet Wednesday night sponsored by the Hertford Jaycees and Vir ginia Electric and Power Co. Jaycee Sidney Harmon told the 65 Jaycees, wives and guests that a private corporation has been set up to build an 18-hole golf course and club facilities. Hert ford Mayor Emmett Landing presented the DSA Award to Nixon. The award is given to a man between the ages of 21 and 35 for his achievements. r Area obituaries MARY E. EVERETT HOLIDAY ISLAND-Mrt. Mary Es telle Everett, 77, of Route 1, Box 320, (Holiday Is land) Hertford, died Wednesday morning, February 5, 1966, at 1:15 in Chowan Hospital Unit C. A native of Pantego she was the wife of William Curtis Ever ett and the daughter of the late Alexander and Hattie Powell Steele. She formerly worked in the meat department of Food Fair in Norfolk. She was a mem ber of the Chapel On The Sound. Besides her husband survivors include five sons, Edwin E. Pulley of Holiday Island, Gene A. Pulley of Chesapeake, Vn., Wil liam E. Pulley of Rt. 3, Hertford, Richard A. Everett and William Robert Everett, both of Norfolk, Va.; a brother, Alexander Steele of Tallahassee, Fla.; 16 grand children and 10 great-grandchil dren. The body was cremated. Memorial services were held Sunday, February 9, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel On The Sound with the Rev. Jim Hodge officiat ing. Swindell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Chapel On The Sound. JAMES E. STALLINGS, JR. HERTFORD, NC-James E. S tailings, Jr., 57, a native of Per quimans County, died Wednes day, Feb. 5, 1986, in a hospital. Mr. Stalings was a truck driver for Charles Ward Trucking. He was a member of Cape Colony Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Myrdes Downs Stallings; his mother, Cora Riddick Stallings of Elizabeth City, NC; two daughters, Leondra Stallings of Norfolk and Angelia Robinson of Greenville, NC; two stepdaugh ters, Virginia Morgan of Hert ford and Deborah Pierce of Windsor, NC; four sisters, Lessie Riddick and Pauline Stallings, both of Belvidere, NC, Frances Layden of Elizabeth City and Do ris Ferrier of Newport News; a grandchild; and six step-grand children. He was a native of Per quimans County, but lived in Elizabeth City, for many years. He was manager and part owner of the Kitty Hawk Fishing Pier, a member of the BPOE Lodge 856, was past Exalter Ruler, and a Trustee. He was a verteran of WWII In the U.S. Navy and was a member of the VFW Clarence Jackson Past 8060, Elizabeth City. He was son of the late Lemuel and Laura Perry Hurdle and the widower of Ruth Ward Hurdle. Survivors include one step daughter, Mrs. Barbara Pickett of Havenwood, Camden, NC; a step-son, Robert Lee Jennings of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sis ters, Mrs. Blanche Moore of Portsmouth, Va.; Mrs. Frances Sexton of Columbia, NC and Mrs. Laura Davis of Eliz. Carol St., Laurel, Md., was in volved in a NATO-sponsored exercise by participating in the Army's return of forces to Ger many (REFORGER) and the Air Force's Crested Cap exercises. The exercises are designed to develop uniformity of doctrine, standardize procedures for rapid response to a crisis and demon strate solidarity in committment to NATO goals and objectives.
