The coun seling staff also administers a number of interest, personality, and aptitude tests when deemed necessary, or upon re quest by the student. Upon review of high school grades, placement test scores, and counseling with the students, it may be recom mended that the student consider devel opmental studies courses to be taken along with regular curriculum classes. This enables students to (1) eliminate de ficiencies in a skill or concept course, (2) receive assistance in mastering required standards of performance in a particular area or program, and (3) increase their knowledge and skills through the use of enrichment activities. All of this may be accomplished through formal classes and/ or through personalized programs under the direction of a reading specialist and professionals in math, biology, mu sic, business, and nursing. Counselors also are available to assist students with personal and social prob lems or with concerns related to adjust ment to the college environment. Care is taken in any counseling situation to pro vide confidentiality and to handle the counseling in a professional manner. DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION Meets the needs of many students ? vet erans, unemployed adults, adults return ing to school after a number of years of absence, and academically-deficient high school graduates. It serves those who need to review, acquire academic skills, build personal confidence, and obtain ca reer guidance. Courses include English grammar, reading, arithmetic, algebra, orientation to college, and personal psy chology. SPECIAL SERVICES Offers supportive services to select stu dents who may not otherwise show their true academic potential. Academic ad visement, no-cost tutoring, assistance in applying for financial aid, personal devel opment counseling, resource information and guidance, and cultural enrichment activities are facets of the program which increase the likelihood that students will successfully reach their college goal.
