Of local interest !tin Halloween the PCHS Art Club sponsored "Dracula's Chambers", a haunted house. The 'project was undertaken to raise money for the club, and was held in the American Legion ibuilding across from the Perquimans County Library. Commodities distribution outlined November 22, 1988 ! 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. 'iRain Date: November 23. 1988 8>30 a.m. -10:30 a.m.) Perquimans County will receive butter, corn meal, instant milk and 0<gir for distribution to the needy of?P rrquimans Countv in Novem m The Hertford Lion's Club will begin the distribution at 11:00 a.m. on November 22, 1988, with a rain date scheduled for November 23, 1988 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please note the change in distribution times from previous distributions. It will be conducted at the Ice Plant, Grubb Street in Hertford and will be available to all income eligible households in Perquimans County. Households having four or more members should bring a helper with them to assist in carry ing the food to the car. All households who will not be able to pick up their commodities may use a representative for this purpose. The commodities card or application must be signed in the correct places for this to be accep table. No household will be allowed to pick up food for more than them selves and one other household as representative. There will be ao exceptions. There will be two lines at the dis tribution site. The second line will be for the handicapped and-or dis abled WHO ARE PRESENT AT THE DISTRIBUTION to pick up their food. A doctor's note, stating the disability, must be provided. Again, there will be no exceptions. Cars may not be driven into the distribution area. Please remem ber to park in only authorized park ing areas as the Hertford Police Department will be patroling the area. Applications may be obtained from the following agencies begin ning November 14, 1988; Depart ment of Social Services, Health De partment, Economic Improvement Council, Catholic Social Services, Senior Citizen Center and the Open Door Ministries at the Ice Plant. The Commodities Distribution Program is available to all eligible persons without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, re ligion, handicap, or political be liefs. Information about regula tions against discrimination and how to file a complaint may be se cured from the N. C. Division of So cial Services, 325 N. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, N.C., or from your county department of social serv ices. During the banquet a Chowan County man was honored. James Rouson was given the Governor's Outstanding Service Award. The Award is given to one person in each county who has done over and above what is asked of them as a volunteer. Rouson is a native of Washington County but has been a resident of Chowan County for the past 17 years. He is employed by Hobbs Implement and works as a me chanic. Rouson is married to Gloria ing-Rouson, a native of Cho County. They are the parents sons ; James Clay Rouson, ivis L. Rouson, 9, and Brian son, 6. n3Kbuson has been an active volun teer in the community for several years He has been a volunteer $jtb the recreation department for it six years. He has coached >ns of Midget football, five of youth baseball, and one seSon of basketball. He has also been a volunteer for the Partners with Youth program Xbi the past year. In his work for Partners with Youth, Rouson was matched with a young man who was having diffi culty in the community. The young man had a brother who was also in the program, but because of his be havior his volunteer dropped out. Mr. Rouson being very fond of the boys decided to take on the respon sibility of both. AMBROSE CreswtUi N.C.? Kev. L.A. Am broM, M, of Routs S, a retired Free Will Baptist minister, died Nov. 5, 1988 in his home. Rev. Ambrose, a native of Wash ington County, N.C., had served in a number ef churches. He was a Coast Guard veteran, and was a Mason. Survivors include his wife, Annie Jane Ambrose; four sisters, Anne lizer Oliver, Elizabeth Furlough and Beedie Spruill, all of Ores well, and Dorthy Bauer of Chesapeake, Va.; and two brothers, Leo Am brose bf Hertford, N.C., and Del ton Ambrose of Creswell. A Amend was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, in Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church, Creswell by the Revs. Charles Overton and Dale Weaver. Burial was in the church cemetery. EVA MAE ONLEY HUXTER Hertford? Mrs. Eva Mae Onley Huxter, 88, formerly of Richmond, Va., (tied Tuesday, November 1, 1988, In Chowan Hesptial. A native of Perquimans County she was the daughter of the late Al bert ?. and Laura Layden Onley and the widow of WiUiam Buell Huxter. She was a retired salesclerk with Miller & Rhodes in Richmond and a member of White ville Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Thursday, November 3, at 2:00 p.m. in Riverview Cemetery, Rich mond, with Rev. Phillip L. Cumbia officiating. Swindell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. JESSE WILLARD HURDLE Jesse Willard Hurdle, 76, for merly of Rt. 4, Hertford, died Sun day, November 6, in Morgan's Rest Home. , A native of Perquimans County, he was the son of the late Sarah Russell and Jesse Hurdle and the widow of Mary Lane Hurdle. He was a self-employed logger. Survivors include: one daughter, Mary H. Weeks of Rt. 1, Elizabeth City; one son, Russell M. Hurdle of Rt. 2, Hertford; two sisters, Sudie Boyce and Ruth Pierce both of Hertford; two brothers, Fen ton Hurdle of Rt. 4, Hertford, and Mather Hurdle of Elizabeth City; and four grandchildren. Graveside services were held Tuesday, November 8 at 3:30 p.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. William Clements officiating. JOHN WOODMAN JORDAN John Woodman Jordan, 75, of Portsmouth, Va., died Sunday morning, November 6, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Perquimans County he was the son of Nathan Brinkley and Callie Marie Benton Jordan and the widow of Thelma Gentry Jordan. He was a retired supply specialist at Norfolk Naval Ship yard where he held a GS Grade of Shipping and Receiving for 38 years. Mr. Jordan was a member of the Alliance Church in Ports mouth, and a member of the Amer ican Assoication of Retired Per sons. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include; three daugh ters, Mrs. Shirley W. Hall of Ports mouth, Va., Mrs. Dorothy A. Miller of Suffolk, Va., and Mrs. Marion J. Peele of Chesapeake, Va.; one sis ter, Jean J. England of Chesa peake, Va., three brothers, Benja min Jordan of Gloucester, Va., Nathan C. Jordan and Nelson Jor dan both of Elizabeth City ; and two grandchildren, Lauren N. Peele and James E.
