Holmes High School, Edenton, N. C. Rotarians pass resolution Submitted by Randall L. C'arswell At its regularly scheduled Tues day evening meeting, the Hertford Rotary Club conducted an open dis cussion regarding law enforce ment in Hertford and Perquimans County. Henry Stokes brought to the floor his recommendation that the timing might be excellent for the county and city officials to in vestigate the feasibility of creating a single law enforcement agency for Hertford, Winfall, and the re mainder of Perquimans County. Although no complaints were lodged against any of the divisions servicing these areas, and several compliments heard, it was debated on the actual merits of creating such an entity. Several members brought to the floor discussion about the positive nature of pooling funds for one such body. Some of the prospective benefits included better compensation for officers, updating of equipment and the possibility of a continuing education program. Erie Haste, also a member of the town council, stated that that body had just reviewed some of the items discussed, in a closed hear ing, and would shortly be bringing these to an open council meeting for possible action. It was advised that any such meeting conducted would be advertised so as to allow residents to attend. Haste ap peared quite receptive to the posi tive nature of this discussion. The Rotary Club closed is meet ing with the passing of a resolution presented by David Martin as fol lows: Perquimans County Commis sioners and town councils of Hert ford and Winfall pursue with all de liberate speed to review the merger and reorganization of the law enforcement agencies and per sonnel of Perquimans County.
