There are currently 111 members in the Post, the majority of whom saw service in WWII and Viet nam. Every Legion mem ber is encouraged to focus on service to the fellow veterans, to their families, and to the community as their number one prior ity The Post has played a major role in the Veterans Administration’s Rural Health Initiatives in this area by getting veterans registered with the VA and particularly with the new Elizabeth City Clinic which is part of the Hampton Virginia Medi cal Center. Post 126 has conducted the local Memorial Day Observance and Veter ans Day ceremonies for Perquimans County for years. In addition, county commissioners charged members with the job of creating the current Vet erans Monument located on the historic county courthouse green. Post meetings are held on the last Saturday of each month. Coffee is available starting at 8 a.m., breakfast is served at 8:30 a.m., and the meet ing usually starts at 9 a.m. Interested veterans are welcome. For additional information call 426-1679. From staff reports BBQ cook-off event is ‘Pig on the Perquimans’ Cale: Camp & Confer ence Center has changed the name and logo for then- annual barbecue cook-off. The name has been changed to “Pig on the Per quimans” to better reflect the location of the center. Cale has also given the event a logo. Pig on the Perquimans is a community-wide family fun day and competition to see what team cooks the best pig in northeast North Carolina. The day centers around food, singing, and activities for all ages. Sev eral area singing groups will share their musical talents, and some of Cale’s REMEMBERING ON MEMORIAL DAY On Memorial Day we honor the men and women of the Armed Forces who have given their lives for their country. We invite you to honor your friends family and neighbors in the military by sending your thoughts and prayers to those fighting abroad, or a note of remembrance to a fallen soldier. The barbecue competi tion is held each summer before summer camp be gins. This year, the event will take place on June 2 from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Teams are forming now. This year’s theme centers around “Heroes”. A bak ing contest has also been added this year. General admission is $10 per person age 12 and up. Children age 5-11 pay $5. Children under the age of four enter free. Cale: Camp & Confer ence Center is a Christian camp located on 76 acres on the beautiful Perqui mans River.
