2 THE PERQUIMANS WEEKLY, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31,2016 Man injured in one car accident From Staff Reports A 31-year-old Perqui mans County man was in fair condition at a Virginia hospital Saturday after au thorities said his vehicle left the roadway and ended up in a ditch. Paul Ritter, of the 500 block of White Hat Road, was traveling north on New Hope Road when his 2013 Chevrolet Spark left the roadway, state Trooper C.Q. Anderson said. Perquimans emergency management officials said the first reports of the ac cident came in at 6:36 a.m. and that firefighters from Durants Neck and Inter- County volunteer depart ments as well as Perqui mans sheriff’s deputies responded. Durants Neck Volunteer Fire Chief Robert Eure said he and a fire captain found a man unconscious in a car that was sitting in a ditch off New Hope Road about a quarter-mile south of Hoskins Lane. Eure said the man would regain conscious ness before blacking out again. Eure said the man was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by helicopter. A Sentara Norfolk General spokes woman confirmed Ritter was in fair condition there. Anderson said Ritter was wearing his seat belt prior to the accident. The trooper said he found little damage to Ritter’s vehicle and didn’t see any skid marks or tire tracks. The speed limit in the vicinity of the accident is 55 mph, Anderson said. Anderson said New Hope Road remained open to one lane of traffic until the accident was cleared. Healthy living series set for Oct. From Staff Reports Seminars on healthy liv ing will be offered in Octo ber and November at the Albemarle Commission, 512 S. Church St. in Hert ford. The programs are free and run two and a half hours for one day a week for six weeks. The workshops will talk about managing pain and fatigue, depression and frustration, fitness and self-confidence and healthy food. Participants will get a copy of the “Living a healthy life” workbook and relaxation CD. The workshops will be held Oct. 13, 20, 27 and Nov. 3, 10 and 17 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The workshops are of fered by the Albemarle Commission Area Agency on Aging with support from the Vidant Health Foundation Community Benefit and Health Initia tives grant program.
