Otherwise this will be an inspirational lime when new ideas can be put to use. Don’t push your luck with a new conquest...the time is not right...yet. Taurus “The BuH“ (Apr 21-May 21) You start the week off wrong if you are not careful by trying to get out of some promise that irks you. Do not go off on a tengent because you are disappointed with a close pal. Examine the situation and you will sec that you are in the wrong, too. Gemini “The Twins" (May ■ 22-June 21) Don't be ■■ pushed into a situation that will need a lot of explaining to those close to you. It is plain to everyone but you that there is one who would try to make trouble between you and one who is closest to you. Those sweet smiles are not to be believed. Cancer “The Crab’’ (June 22-July 23) A great lesson can be learned from a trusted friend today, al though you might not realize its significance at the moment. You will be reminded of this day before the next month is through. Many of your friends are not going all-out with su pport. this Captivating Wendy Leo "The Lion" (July certainly is trt 24-Aug 23) Isn't it a pity case, right? that your tall tales are not going over too well. You see just how you are know the old saying "the carrying through with the bigger they come, the work you are doing and harder they fall,’’ It back you whole-heartedly if it is efficient. Don’t over-do the friendly “bit".,.some co-workers are feeling the pinch, get it? ARE YOU INTERESTED IN HOW YOU WILL RESIST THE SANDS OF TIME? f This week: CANCER. (June 22-July 23) Those born under the sign of the Crab may begin to deteriorate rather early as most Caneerians are self-centered and self- indulgent; they live in a state of feeling, rather than in constructive doing. The first place where they show their age is in their handwriting. The handwrit ing will change gradually but so completely that it goes back to its childhood appearance. It will show the effect of the trembling hand; will be shaky and uneven in pen pressure. But the Cancerian CAN remain youthful in brain and body. It Can be done--if they watch for those first signs of old age, and begin to work on their character by taking care of their health, and keeping the brain active by outside interests. But the Crab must be pushed and prodded or he will “pamper himself” into senility. Next Week: LEO Consumer's Corner by Barry L. There are at least two things that should be considered: the actual quality of the furniture and the reliability of the store that you’re going to trade with. After you have decided the style and color of the furniture you would like, and the amount of space to be filled, check your local newspaper for furniture advertisements and look into the reputation of stores in your vicinity. Unfortunately, a store will sometimes advertise furniture at a price that seems exceptionally low. Then, when the buyer arrives at the store, he is told that the advertised furniture has already been sold, or that for “just a little more money” he can have something much nicer. You should never fall for this “bait-and-switch” tactic. Either demand to see the advertised furniture at the advertised price, or leave the store and buy elsewhere. Don’t ever be intimidated by high pres sure sales. Once you have found a piece of furniture that you like, at a suitable price, check its construction carefully. Test its strength, see if it wobbles, and whether all of the legs rest levelly on the floor. Be sure that the drawers slide smoothly, and that there are no rough edges where the wood fits together. Be sure that the fabric is tightly woven, and that the seams are straight and durable. You can sometimes get an excellent buy on used or unfinished furniture in thrift stores, factories and second hand stores. Re finishing kits, which cost under five dollars, are available at many paint and department stores. You should avoid buying furniture from door-to-door salesmen or from furniture trucks. Frequently, furni ture from these sources is extremely expensive and of questionable quality. Be sure that any furniture you buy carries acceptable warranties. I had an auto accident, t)ut I don’t want to report it to my insurance company because my policy might be cancelled. Can I deduct the damage to my car as a casualty loss? A. No. Although a portion of your unreimbursed damage from an auto accident is gen erally deductible as a casualty loss, a deduction will be denied to the extent that you fail to claim available reimbursement. Q. I read that taxes “checked off” on last year’s tax return to particular political parties NYC Police Get Tested On Integrity NEW YORK - If you lose your wallet in New York and somebody turns it over to a policeman, there's a good chance he won’t turn it into a precinct, an “integrity” test disclosed Friday shows. Assistant Chief John Guido, head of Internal Affairs Department, says the honesty lest was conducted from August to October when lAD personnel approached 51 patrolmen and claimed to have found lost wallets. MOST OF THE wallets contained about $25, but four of them contained several hun dred dollars. Fifteen were never taken to a precinct for logging and receipt as required by department regulations, Guido said. will be transferred to a gen eral fund to be di' ided among all parties. Is this true? A. Yes. Recent legislation ap proved by Congress transfers taxes designated to particular parties on 1972 returns to a general Presidential Election Campaign Fund. The new legislation also provides that on 1973 returns taxpayers will have the option of designating tax only to a general fund which subsequently will be divided among all parties. Q. Isn’t there some sort of tax credit for which retirees may qualify? A. Yes. A retiree may qualify for the retirement income credit if he is a U.S. citizen or resident, had $600 of earned income in each of any 10 cal endar years before the current year, and had retirement in come during the tax year. For more details, see IRS Publica tion ,'524, “Retirement Income Credit,” You can get a eopy free by contacting your nearest Internal Revenue office, Q. I paid an employment agency $300 to find a job for me. Can I deduct this fee? A. Yes. Employment agency fees paid for securing employ ment are deductible. However, the IRS regards fees paid for seeking rather than securing employment as not deductible. NEW YORK—Candles are a dangerous substitute for electric bulbs on Christmas trees, a home safety director warned Friday. Asked about the idea of using candles instead of electric bulbs, Marjorie May of the Greater New York Safety Council said, “Tell them no, no, no, no. And underline it 16 limes.” MRS. MAY said the practice of using candles is so rare nowadays that no individual statistics are kept on fires caused by open flames. In Boston, the National Fire Protection Association said Ihey did not know how many of the 1,460 Christmas tree fires in 1972 were caused by candles. The question of using Christmas tree candles was raised because Julie Nixon Eisenhower lit a candle Monday to mark the opening of the Christmas Greens Exhibit of the Botanic Gardens Con servatory in Washington. A picture of the ceremony was carried nationally. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS Dear Miss Hill: Is Aquarius -- the water carrier -- a water sign? My birthday is January 24. Jo-Jo, Denver, Colo. Aquarius gets its symbol from the shape its stars form as a constellation. All the stars are, by tradition, divided into groups- five, earth, air and water -- according to their position in the Zodiac -- and Aquarius happens to be an air sign. ffi ffioutttrjj 3f«rniturp (Compang 3nr. 607 l[X)L DRIVE * P, 0 BOX 50^5 • HIGH POINT, NORTH CAROLINA 27262 PHONES W3-30I6 • U3-A9S6 • U2-4o12 .
