For most families, from 22 to 31 cents oat of c\ery SI is spent on something to go on the table. What that money buys should be nntritiotis, tasty and eco nomical. Most of us eat too much, so a good way to cut down on costs is to slowly get your family into the habit of eating just what they need. Fellows Program At A&T GREENSBORO - The A&T State University Fellows program, a funded project designed to identify young leaders for the nation’s social, exonomic and politieal sectors, is looking for some friends in North Carolina. Students selected for the program have spent their past two summers working for such dignitaries as Rep. Richardson Preyer, Rep. Shirley Chisholm, Rep. Henry Frye, and for some of the nation’s largest industries. “But now we need more internships in North Caro lina,” said Dr. William Parker, director of the project. “We would like for our students to gain the experience of interacting with some of our outstand ing leaders in this state.” The A&T program is funded by the North Carolina Fellows Program Inc. and operates through A&T, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Davidson College, North Carolina State Uni versity and the Smith Richardson Foundation. Careful Screening The Fellows are selected after a careful screening and spend most of the academic year traveling and meeting informally with national and state officials. It’s the greatest learning experience possible,” add ed Parker. Funds for the travel and guest lecturers are born by the North Carolina Fellows Program. Some of the Fellows attended the Black National Political Convention, some have met personally with the Rev. .lesse Jackson, national civil rights leader, and Dr. James Farmer, the founder of the Congress for Racial Equality. Parker said firms desir ing to provide internships next summer, may contact himat A&T. The students are required to participate in an internship experi ence. and controlling snacks between meals. The prac tice of eating all day is not only unhealthy, it's expen sive. Here are some lips in follow when shopping loi food: 1. Shop alone if possible. (Try to swap babysitting chores with a neighbor.) 2. Shop only once a week, or less. 3. Eat before you shop. 4. Stick to your shopping list, based on menus you've planned in advance. 5. Buy specials only if you can use it, or substitute something already on your list. If you don't eat it, a special is a waste of money. 6. Keep “junk” food to a minimum; they add up. 7. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables in season.
