INSIGHT:
For Teens Only
by Miller Carter, Jr.
When we get payed on Friday, by Saturday all the
money is gone, where does it all go? When it seems
that there is not enough money to go around, what
happened to it all? Well my teen friends, you probably
know as well, or better than I.
Maybe it’s because we spend all of our money on the
wrong things. The money we should be spending to pay
our bills and debts we spend on fancy clothes, jewelry,
and cars. Maybe it’s because we care more about how
we look rather than how we live. Or it could be that we
like to buy unnecessary items such as beer, wine, snack
foods, and even dope. Maybe that’s why our money
seems to go so fast.
In these hard days where money is hard to come by,
we should be a little more careful in the way we go
about spending our money. First of all we should all
have a spending plan w'hereas we can know where
every penny of our hard earned money goes. Then we
should pay all of our debts and, most important, save a
small portion of our salaries.
1 say “we”, because I too am guilty of spending
unwisely. No one person, I feel, is an exception to this
fact. We should try to get the best quality, value and
service from every item that we spend our precious
dollar on. Next, we should be able to tell the difference
between a necessity and a luxury. A necessity is
something that is essential tb the health and well being
to thehuman. A luxury, well; 1 think we all know what
that is. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have luxuries
but there is a time to buy and a time to reframe from
buying. Being able to tell the difference between a
luxury and a necessity is just a matter of opinion. For
instance: a T-bone steak each day, or a new car each
year may be a necessary for a rich person but on the
other hand it could be pure luxury for a man not so rich.
I’m not trying to say what’s necessary for everyong
or how many luxury purchases to make; I’m only trying
to let people know how to spend money wisely.

for be lives in a land where there are no .trees. He does not
have berries and nuts, so he lives on fish and young birds, but
most of all he would rather have a seal for a meal. While he is heavy
