WINSTON-SALEM -Five Winston-Salem high school seniors have been awarded R.J. Reynolds Industries Scholarships through the Scholastic Achievement Program at Winston-Salem State University. In announcing the R.J. Reynolds Industries Scho larship recipients (also called Reynolds Scholars) „ . j * r 1975, Mr. Warren C. Dr. Blake IS a graduate of A Oldham, Program Director, explained that the scholar ships is an honorary award that is given to selected high school seniors as recognition of outstanding academic achievement. Scholars are selected on the basis of merit competition without regard for financial need. In making the awards, particular attention is given to academic standing, character, lead ership ability, and ambi tion. Shelia R. Carter, The speaker is a native of Georgia and has been president of the Washing ton, D.C. based non-profit corporation which is in volved in research and program development work related to blacks in higher education. Paine College, August, Georgia, and received the M.A. Degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C., in the field of education. Blackwell, executive dir ector of the Southern Rural Action Inc., was presented his award Sunday during the university’s 84th annual baccalaureate-commence- ment.
