Burge on East Market street. .Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mo'rrisey motored down, from Norfolk, " "'."ya., to visit relatives and friends over the holiday week-end. The ladies of Browning Chapel chureh entertained Corporal (and Mrs. Richard Johnson of Chicajgo, 111., at an informal dinner at the home of Mrs. Sadie E. Shephard. Mrs. Grace Foye Bruce and Miss Edna Wllkins acted as hostesses. Corporal Johnson has been stationed at A. and T. college for sometime. Mr: Lewis Jones of this city, hut he has made his home in Washington, D. C., for the past ten years, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jones, Sr., on East Market street. Mrs. Lucendia Williams has just returned from her trip to Amsterdam, N. Y. Mr. William Baxter of Charlotte, student at J. C. Smith was the guest of Miss Mae Alice Steele on Thanksgiving day. Miss Mae Alice Steele spent last weeK-ena in uurliam visiting her sister, Mrs. Arnelle Robinson and Mrs. Ruth Bolden. Mr. Hugo Robinson of Portsmouth, Va., was in the city a few days visiting his wife and family. Burlington News Miss Nannie Collis and Mrs. M. P. Moultrie attended the North Carolina conference for Parents and Teachers. It was held in the Washington High school in Raleigh, they report an interesting trip. Miss E. L. Evans spent the week-end with Dr. and Mrs. W. S. Scott and friends. Mrs. Ora Sellers Foster and Miss Sarah Reeder both of Spartanburg, S. C., spent the holiday week-end with Miss M. C. Sellers. Miss Mary J. Holt entertained for them Friday evening, the 26th. Mrs. J. F. Gunn was the hostess Saturday for dinner the 27th. The teachers of Jordan Sellers and J. F. Gunn schools report a la pleasant week-end trip. Miss P.. Douglass and Miss I'M. S. 'Flake of Glen Raven school spent the holiday weekend with their parents in Winston-Salem and Wadesboro. Little Emma Elizabeth and little Madeline Pinnix spent the holiday week-end as guest of Miss Wallina Pinnix at Shaw University, Raleigh. The many friendB are glad to know that Mrs. J. V. Sharpe is i at home after an operation at I L,. Richardson Memorial hospital, Greensboro. Master Walter Crisp entertained the Boy Scouts on his birthday, the 28th, they enjoyed A pleasant evening. After a regular service at the First Baptist church, of 3urllngton, Mrs. Robs Evans, president of Missionary Circle No. 1, explained the recent purchase of pews and carpet. This was the climax of a project sponsored by the circle. The entire congregation enjoyed a comfortable period of service. St. Matthews A. M. B. church, enjoyed the presence of (Mrs. J. W.
