J. R. Scroggs of Shelby in charge. Delegates began pouring into the town Tuesday afternoon and every train through yesterday brought-others besides the large n4imbers-conwngJ43rivateWKi-j -iwttin g 4 n hu' veyances until today -the town is of a truth in the "hands of the Motnodists. The Shelby District Comprises Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln Counties and a part of Catawba County representing twenty one pastoral charges and some seventy-five or eighty churches. The conference work began Tuesday night with a missionary sermon-y Rev. Frank Siler, the Missionary Secretary of the Western North Carolina Conflu ence with headquarters at Waj- nesville, N. C. This feature was not purely a part of the confer ence nroirram but coining as it did'in direct connection with the conference work was presided over by Presiding Elder, Dr. Scroggs. Yesterday Morning 9-30 The conference was called to order by Presiding Elder Dr. Scroggs who opened -the session Farmer's Union Picnic. The annual Farmer's Union Picnic will be held at Ware s school Louse on August 14th. will be some speaking and plenty of dinner. Everybody will be welcome. Birthday Dinner. Mr. Crawford White of Kings Mountain announces his birth day dinner for August 15th, He invites everybody to be present with their baskets well filled. 10 00 The matter of organizat ion was taken up and Rev. M. B. Clegg was appointed tempor ary secretary following which A. J. Rankin was elected secre tary. Rev. M. P. Clegg made the roll call of churches and charge. Dr. Scroggs announced that ac cording to the records this was the 24th. session of the District Conference but stated that t':e i records were in error for there had been thirty five or forty. It was explained, however, that the twenty four had been held since the Western North Carolina Conference had been etablished and those previous were under the old North Carolina Con ference. 10:20. Dr. Frank Siler made a short talk outlining something o the missionary activity of the conference and asked the pastors to set as their goal for the year a ten per cent addition to their U. D. C. Meet. The regular monthly meeting of the Kings Mountain Chapter IT. D. Scroggs canvassed the pastors present and it was the almost unanimous opinion that the goal could be reached.
