Mellon Company and one o' tne most popular ana promising young business men of the city, ard Miss Cristinc Maxwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Maxwell; who live at 1005 South Boulevard, Dill worth. were instantly killed last ni;ht at 10:45 s'clock when Mr. Creig's high-powered seven -passenger turing aar in which they were riding was overturned on. the Statesvilie road one half mile mile noath of Crofts and 10 miles from Charlotte. Mr. David J Craig of Statesvilie. a brother of, Mr. John M. Craig, and Mr, W, Heyward McCade, Jr., who were also in the car were both painfully but not seriously in ured-while John Fingeas, the colored chauffeur, had his leg broken. One moment the audience was in tears of pity for poor fallen men and heartbroken women, victims of the liquor traffic, and the next it was in a roar of laughter at some of his ,apt illustration. "1 have no abuse for the drunk ard, but pity only" said the spea ker and it was on this plain that his tlioma was based. "We didn't get prohibition in its entirety in l'JUO but we gave it a hard blow" hesiid. T.io prohibition law in North Carolina has reduced the shipment into the state from 20 million rfullons per year to three million.and has knocked the face off of drinking, was a very satis factory fact brought out by Mr. Stringlield. After the address a collection was taken lor the extension of the cause of prohibition. Mr.StriugfieM made a propo sition for all who wanted whisk ey swupt from the face of the earth to rise in response towhich every person in the house rose.
