Students participating in the discussion were: D. E. Hord Jr., Hal . Olive, Gloria Corawell, Mary Julia 1)a11a/.l oa? t. 1" \rt-.t i viiwva, uvu viuivi \ u ill., ViVIHU Prince, Belly Leo Neisler and Eugent Math!-!. In attempting to define Education for the American Way of Life, the .leader presented five questions for the group to discuss: 1. What in NutidTTWEdncHtlnn Week? What Is J the theme of the Week for :J. What in Education for the American Way of Life? 4. Is North Carolina educating for the American Way of Life? 4. Is Kings Mountain Hliir.atlng .for the American Way of Life? | American Way ot Ltle, based their rcmmenlb on tlnr necessity for self' realization, good human . elationhip atid economic efficiency in daily living. in answering the fourth question asked, one student presented the s.x standards which a system of edacatioir should meet, according to Jie advisory committee oil Eduea-iou appointed by the President or .he United States, and. the other iiicmbers of the dlscussiou presented facts Stowing both how North Carolina is partially meeting those standards and how she is failing to meet .them. , The students concluded that even though Kings Mountain is educating for the "American Way of Life," die could secure better results by adding courses) in vocational training, such as a department .of diversified occupations offering carpentry, textiles, mechuuics, plumbing, tin work and vocational guidance; and' increasing the home economics department and the commercial department each to Include an additional year. These additions to the high school course of study are especially needed because only thirty per cent of the graduates) receive additional training. The program was presented in eel cbration of American Education Week which was observed throughAlLt tha TTiiltzul Qtatan 1??* vi uii iuu v/?iiwi kjmvco iaoL ncca.
