Tret of Bennettsville paid charming compliment to Miss Mary Frances. Gantt, bride-elect. Seven tables for bridge were appointed for refreshments when the guests arrived. Each table was centered with tiny pitcher holding baby 'mums. The honorec wearing a lovely black suit found her place ijiarked with a corsage of. gardenias. The hostesses assisted by Mesda mes Ertle Powers, Linwood Parton, A. T. Randall, Miss Leone Patterson and Mis Annie Laurie Summitt ser-t vedfrozen fruit salad, chicken sal-! ad sandwiches, pickles, individual | cakes iced in green and white and | coffee. When the covers were removed sev eral animated p'ogressions of bridge ensued. Top score was made by Mrs. Charles Carpenter, Mrs. Otto Wil-1 liams, second high. iMias Gantt was remembrered with ! * six pieces of crystal in her chosen 1 pattern. I met Sunday evening in the youth chapel with 28 present. An open | forum discu.ssion on "Roads to'Peace j and .War" was conducted by Jean ' Lynch. On two large blackboards at j the front of the chapel Were llf.ted i factor contributing to peace, and fac j tors contributing to war. The g oup was divided Into two sides with <c?ck i Matthews heading the "Roads to! War" side, and Patrici^ Prince head| ing the "Roads to Peace" side, with ; members from each side contributing to the list for their side. After i j making the lists, the group entered into a lively discussion on same. On [ the program also were Barbara j ! Grantham and Dottie Smith, who j read, scripture pertaining to peace. | j Following the business, the young j ! people haf choir practice. On Thursday evenfng, the 18th. a larse crouo of th<* Ynurti T?g?iir\i?rov?w? , ? OWIJ' attended the Gastonia sub-district banquet in Gastonia. Next Sunday evening the group will meet early, at 5:30 in the church basement for a covered dish supper and "penny birthday party" (each member is to bring a penny for each year of his age, to be sent to a camp fund) before their program in the r chapel. At-6:30 an interesting pro-i gram "We Work for Peace" will be presented by the four commission | chairmen, who will divide the Youth 1 Fellowship into four groups and meet separately to plan what each i may do this year to promote peace. Adelphian Club Meets With Mrs. R. L. Mauney | Members of the Adelphian club j and other guests enjoyed the hospi- i tality of Mrs. R. L. Mauney last j Thursday afternoon when she enter- j tained at her home on Piedmont avenue. Artistic arrangements of mixed fall flowers and the soft glow from the white candles on the mantle in the living room and buffet in the dining room was a charming setting for the three tab}es of rook and two of bridge. Guests found their places at beautifully appointed tables, where the hostess assisted by her daughter, Mrs. G. E. Still, Mrs. W. L. Mauney. Guests were'present for play at three tables and the tables were laid for refreshments at the beginning of the party. A delicious desert course and coffee was served. V . 1 11 Birthday Patty At Huffstetler Home Mrs. Andy Huff stetler was hostess to a delightful party at her home on Piedmont avenue Wednesday, Nov. 10, honoring her daughter, Patricia Diane, an her sixth birthday. Home Demonstration Club Met Thursday The Patterson Grove Home Demon stnation club met at the home of Mrs. Eugene Patterson, Thursday, November 11th. The president, Mrs. James Ware, called the meeting to order. The Secretary called the roll and read the minutes of the last meeting. A large number of members and two visitors, Miss Georgle White and Mrs. Teague were present. Business was discussed. A Christmas party was planned to be with Mrs. James Ware.
