Thoraburgs Celebrated 50th Wedding Anniversary Christmas Day . "Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Thornburg eel- i ebrated on Christmas day the fif tieth annlversay of their wedding with an informal reception at their home. Children, grandchildren, and | Other relatives called between three i ar.d five o'clock to offer their con gratulations. A program of music was given in tfhe living room by two grand daughters, Mrs. M. J. Bel!, jr., sang "Because." Mrs. W- J Lewis sang ?'I Love You Truly". They were ac- ) companied at the organ by Miss! Witchell Williams, niece of Mrs. | Thornburg After the music the guests were invited into the dining | room. A white linen clolh covered j the table, which was graced at onel end by the tiered golden wedding! cake and at the other end \vas a orysl ta-1 punch bowl. In the center of thej table a bowl of poinsettias flanked] by crystal candelabras holding] . white tapers. A small side table held I the silver coffee service also decora- j ted with silver candelabras and ta |fers. Mrs. Thornburg cut the first piece of cake after which a fruit punch course was served wich cake, mints, nuts, potato chips and coffee. Those assisting in serving were: Mrs. Mon . rbe J. Bell, Sr., Mrs. George Eirthart, Ode 11 Steller, Mrs. W. J. Lewis. Mrs. Fred Thomburg presided at 'the i punch bowl while Mrs. Ted Thorn burg and 'Mrs. O'tha Thomburg ser ved ihe coffee. Mr. and Mrs. Thornburg's young est son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thomburg celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary along with their parents. % Mrs. Thomburg wore a black crepe dress, while lace at the neck and a lavender orchid shoulder bou quet. Mr. and Mrs. Thomburg have sev en children, Mrs. Monroe J. Bell. Mrs. Odell Steele and Ted Thom burg of Charlotte; Wray, Floyd and Fred Thomburg of Kings Mountain, Otha Thomburg of Rock Hiii, S. Saunders. her room mate at Salem Academy, Miss Eleanor Myers was a most gracious hosteiSs at a luncheon, given at the Count ry Club on New Year's day. The private dining room of the Club was unusually attractive, with the New Year motif being effective ly carried out. The dining table was centered with a silver bowl of red and white carnations, flanked on either side with lighted red tapers in silver holders. Attached to each place card was a silver leaf. The guests were reminded that since it was. New Year's Day, each one should turn over a new leaf. When the place card leaf was turned, a resolution, appropriately selected for each guest was found written on it.
