Pre -Nuptial Courtesy Shown Mi&s Griiiin A pre- nuptial courtesy was shown Miss Je' Anne Griiiin Thursday night when Mrs. Bill Craig entertained at a bviifen dinner. The dining ?table was covered with a madeiia. ?loth centered with white candles<jn diver holders. The baked ham, tocnalo aspic, asparagus tips with che*sfe sauce, hot roils, celery, olives, pickles, were arranged on thte table. On a side table were indi vidual lemon itaris, mints, and cof fee. Card tables covered with mareira covers were placed in the living room. These also held lighted can-, dies. Aiound these were placed min iature "candy nosegays tied with blue and pink ribbon. The nosegays were later given as favors. Mrs. Ciaig was assisted in serving toy Miss Carfyle Ware. Those enjoying the hospitality were Miss Griffin* honoree, her mo ther, Mrs. E. W. Griffin, Miss Ma rion Arthur, Miss Virginia Summers, Miss Nancy Nickles, and Miss Caro line McDaniel. Spring flowers in pastel shades were used in the party rooms. The ftonoree was given a copper ivy bowl. I WMS Of 2nd. Baptist With Mrs. Jim Pearson The WMS of the Second Baptist church met last Thursday with Mrs. Jim Pearson. Seventeen members were present. Two new members were welcomed, Mrs. Ben Sanders and Mrs: Dora Austin. 'V ' The meeting was opened with prayer by Mrs. Marie Hamrick. Mrs: Nannie Kitchen read the devotional. An interesting discussion on* "Christ is The Answer To Racial Problems' was given by several members. Mrs. Bessie Horne led the closing prayer. ? The hostess assisted by Mre. Mrs. M. A. Ware and Mrs W. W. Tolleson poured coffee. : They were assisted in serving by Mrs. Paul Hendricks, Miss Audrey t May, Mfcw Jfea- Davis, Miss Margar et Goforth and Miss Sybil Spratt. Miss Fannie Carpenter and Mrs. John Cheshire directed callers to the den, here Mrs. Vernon Crosby pre sided over the register. Mrs. Dan Finger, directed to the sun room and good-byes were said by Mrs. W. M. Gantt and H. C. Mays. ? Music was furnished at the piano by Miss Bonnie Mclntosih and Miss Lula Mae Teague. Approximately 150 guests called between the hours of four and six o'clock. Mrs. Caldwell Hostess To Macedonia WMS WMS of Macedonia Baptist chu ch met last week with Mrs. M. B. Caldwell. Mrs. Jesse Jenkins open ed the meeting with prayer. A short business session was held with Mrs. C. B Bob bid presiding. Topic for March ? "God Shows No Partiality." Pauline Club Observes 16th Birthday The members of the Pauline Com munity Club celebrated their 16th Anniversary with a dinner . l$st Tuesday night at the club house. In the center of the table was the large birthday cake. Fried chicken,! rice, potato salad, slaw, deviled eggs, hot rolls, coffee and the birth day cake were enjoyed by the 21 members there. Mrs. Jack Hullender gave the de votional. Mrs. Joe Ducker led in prayer. In the absence of the presi dent Mrs. Clyde Bla<fkwell had Char ge of the business. Several games were played. Mre. Miss Jean Webb ? Gives A Lovely Tea . Miss Je'Anne Griffin and Miss Le nora Plonk, brides- elect, were ihe inspiration for a beautiful ten giv en Saturday afternoon by Miss Jean .Webb at the Country Club. Mrs. R. H. Webb, mother of the hostess, welcomed guests at the door introducing them -co the receiving line, Miss Webb, Miss Plonk, and Miss Griffin. The receiving line was formed in the rose living room, the mantle | was banked with gladioli, greenery and lighted tapers. F.isewhere in the room Were azaleas and bowls of mixed flowers. [ Misses Marion Arthur and Caro line Morrow received in the recep tion hall. Yellow narcissus, rose epergne holding bridal flowers were effectively used, Receiving in the hall between the living room and dining room were Misses Dorcas Carpenter and Boo bie Simons. Large ferns and spring flowers added to. the beauty here. Callers were invneo irtco the din ing room by Mrs. Paul Neisier and Mrs. Hayne oiacKmer. The table was covered with a white linen c tit -work and embroidered cloth, centered Witn a suver OOwl of dutch iris, snapdragons and baby's breath in shades of yellow, orchid and white, a silver candeiaurn holding lighted white tapers. At on- 5 end of the ta ble Mrs. E. W. Griffin poured coflee from a silver service. At the other end Miss Jett Pionk served bridal ices. Individual cakes with valley lily decorations, mints and nuts in 'silver compotes completed the ta ble appointments. On a side table a fan shaped ar rangement of the same flowers with silver candle sticks holding white tapers were used. The mantle was banked with flowering white crab apple. Others assisting in serving In the dining room Were Misses Bet ty Lynch, Louan# Herndon, Paity Neisler and Shirley Arthur. Miss Peggy Arthur and Miss Jean Davis said good-byes to the guests from the side door in the living room. Attractive arangements of peach flowering almond, narcissus and dutch iris were used in this room. ? The soft light from the many lighted candles, the unusual array of flowerd the girls in their dresses of pastel shades made a lovely set ting fot the hundred guests who caiied between 4:30 and 5:30 o'clock. Brides-Elect Honored With Bridge Party Miss Betty Lynch delightfully en tertained at four taoies of bridge ami two of rook at the home of her parents Mr. and, Mrs. Haywood E. The card tables were covered with madeira tea cloths, in the center of each was a white lighted taper. The places of the honorees were marked with miniature brides. ^ The hostess, assisted by her sis ters-, Lossie and Jean, and Mrs. H. C. Mayes, served bridal ices, individual cakes iced in white decorated with sweet peas, nuts and coffee. .After several animated progres sions Miss Mary Ann C rouse was presented high score pri^e and Miss Peggy Arthur low score prize in bridge, Miss Dorcas .Carpenter high score in rook, Miss Pauline Mauney, low. The honorees were given brass plaques. Surprise Party Given R. L. Mcniney Mr. R. L. Mauney was most hap pily surprised ias* Sunday morning when his class of 14 charming young ladies escorted him over to his home where they served him a beautiful birthday cake with iced colas. The cake was decorated in pink rosebuds and had his full name in pink letters. Mr. Mauney celebrated his 73rd birthday anniversary on March 7. The members of Mr. Mauney* Sunday school class are Misses Joy ce Cline, Louise Carpenter, Betty Falls, Joyce Falls, Gwendolyr 'irke, Betty Kiser, Florence Lackey, Mary Laivier, Bonnie Led better, Mary Med Un, Martha Morrison, Gene Morrison Peggy Mauney, Evelyn Etters. Slumber Party For Miss Lenora Plonk Miss Louann Herndon entertained [ at a slumber party last Saturday night In honor of Mis* Lenora Plonk a bride elect of the month. Before retiring Miss Plonk was given a lin gerie shower.
