S. of th Second Baptist chur. I ch met for their regular November meeting at the home of Mrs. 1. W. j Ledford, November 10, with fourteen members present. , <? The meeting was opened with a song, followed with prayer, by Mrs., lla <Fipp. The Scripture lesson was given by Mrs. Minnie Wright. Others . taking parr, on the program were Mrs. T. F. Ware, Mrs. I. W. Ledford, Mrs. Walter Wilson, Mrs. B. F. Aus- j tin, and Mrs C. Ham. The meeting was closed with j prayer by Mrs. B. F. Austin. Refreshments were served by the hostess. After the meetihg plans were-; made for a Thanksgiving supper to be held in the home of Mrs. Henry Carroll on Saturday after Thanks giving. Husbands of the members a;e invited. The Floyd Paynes Give Birthday Party On Saturday night the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Payne was at tractlvely decorated with fall flow ers for the occasion of a birthday party, honoring Mr. Grady Yelton and, Mr. Baxter Payseur. Messrs. Yel ton and Payseur were the recipients of many useful gifts from the group assembled. A lovely birthday cake with the inscription, "Happy Birthday, Grady and Baxter," was cut and enjoyed with candy and hot coffee, which was served on individual trays. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Grady Yelton, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Payne, Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Par ton, Mfe& Linda 'Parton, and Mr. Douglas Yelton. Personals Leslie iFalls of Gastonia visited his sister, Mrs. M. L. Plonk, Tuesday evening. .' .. . Mrs. Geo. P. Davis of Charlotte spent the weekend visiting her aunt, Mrs. C. E. Neisler. Mrs. Buford Bookout of Fairfax, Va., is visiting her mother-in-law, I Mrs. W. A. Bookout. R. G. Plonk and N. F. McGill, stu dents at Chapel Hill, were home ov- 1 er tfie weekend. Miss Betty Gamble has returned to her work at the -Memorial hospi tal after spending several weeks at home with a foot injury. Mrs. E. L. Campfbell had the mis fortune to fall and received a very painful bruise. She Is still confined to her room. Paul Manney, R. H. Webb, H. R. Hunnicutt and J. A. Neisler returned home this week from (Council, N. C.j Oakland where they have been deer hunting. Mr. and Mrs. M. C, Amos spent the weekend with their son, Billie Gene, who is a student, at Wake Forest. Billie Gene plans to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with his par ents. Gene White, student at the Uni versity of North Carolina, spent the weekend With his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. White and Joe McDaniel with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. <F. Styers. Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Mauney and son, Gene,- Mr. and Mrs. I?. L. Lohr and son, Lawrence, of Raleigh, at tended the Carolina-Notre Dame In New York Saturday. Mr. and Mra Harry Page returned home Thursday after spending a week in New York and Norfolk, Va., viritng Mm. Page's sister, Mrs. W. F. Brewer and Comdr. Brewer. They went especially to see the North Car olina-Notre Dame game on Satur day in New Yoric. Others attending the game were: Mr. and Mrs. IP. M. Neisler, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Carpenter-Plonk Wedding Plans Flans have been completed and are announced for the wedding of M>ss Dorcas Carpenter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Troy Carpen ter and Mr. John Butler Plonk, son of Mr. and Mrs. C la fence S'. Plonk. The wedding will take place Sat urday evening, November 26th, at 8 o'clock in the Central Methodist church. Rev. J. G. Winkler, of Kan napolis, former pastor of the bride, will hear the exchange of vows in a double ring ceremony. A program of wedding music will be presented by Mrs. Aubrey Maun ey, organist, and Miss Clara Plonk, of New York City and Kings Moun tain, sister of the groom, soloist. The popular young bride will be given In marriage by her father. Wray A. Plonk, brother of the bride groom, will be best man. Miss Carpenter will have as her matron of honor her sister, Mrs. (John B. Dllling, of Kannapolis. Bridesmaids will include Mrs. A. A. (Buddy) Lackey, ^Jr., of Falston, cou sin of the groom, Mrs. David M. Neill, Miss Louann Herndon, Mils Betty Hord, Miss Bobbie Simmons and Mrs. Charles T. Carpenter, Jr., i all of Kings Mountain. j Ushers will be Clarence S. Plonk, [ Jr., brother of the groom, A. A. Immediately after the ceremony Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Carpenter, parents of the bride, will entertain at a reception at the Woman's Club \house.
