Phenix Party
The third annual Christmas party
for the children of the employees of
Phenix Plant, unit of Burlington
Mills Corporation, was held in the
mentality were now more valuable
assets than brawn. In' the good old
days, he reported, candidates for a
team trudged to the nearest set of
scales in town and the eleven heav
iest formed the first string.
He gave some interesting side
lights on the game as he had known
it through playing and coaching
some of the nation's finest teams.
He did hot predict the outcome of the
Rice-Carolina contest, but indicated
he thought Rice was deservedly fa
vored. In remarking on the current
aggregation of Tar Heels, hp said
he did not thing it a "great" team.
His remarks were punctuated with
numerous stories, with Judge E. Y. -
Wobb, honor guest, as a frequent
target. One in particular amused the
crowd and contained inferences that
Judge We'bb, in his football days
was a rowdy carouser. Judge Webb
is known as an ardent "dry," both
personally and poltlcally.
Some 600 persons viewed the film
on the Notre Dame-Carolina game.
