unveiled, Saturday. January 7.
W. E. Fish, general sales manager,
made the announcement today as
.fame 7,000 Chevrolet dealers across
the country began preparations for
elaborate showroom presentations.
The 1950 car will make its appear
ance following Chevrolet's most suc
cessful year. Fish said retail passen
ger car sales in 1949 would top 1,
000,000 units while truck sales of
330,000 would set a new all-time ;
record for the industry.
Mrs. John Petty's Sister
Died Wednesday
Mrs. D. W. Carlan. 65, of Shelby,
died Wednesday morning at 2:10
o'clock foj.'owing a serious Illness of
four weeks. She had been in failing
[health for sometime. Born in White I
I county, Georgia, she was the former
Mis# Lydia Ledford, daughter of the
late Nancy and LaFayette Ledford.
Mrs. Carlan, whose husband died
in 1939, had been living in Shelby
for 25 years and for the past 12 years
made her home with' her'only dau
ghter, Mrs. Oren Huskey.
Funeral services were held Thurs
day afternoon at 3:15 o'clock to tne
Huskey home on Grover street in
Shelby. The Rev. E. B. Hicks, pastor
of Eastside Baptist church conducted j
the rite*>. Interment fo.'lowed in Sun- \
set cemetery. Mrs. Carlan was a !
member of Broad River baptist chuij- i
ch in Blackgburg, S. C.
Survivors include two children;
Mrs. Oren Huskey and Guy Carlan,
both of Shelby; one sister, Mrs. John
Petty of Kings Mountain; three
grandchildren and one great-grand
son.

Mrs. Fred Thompson, 51, of Colum
bia, S. C., /ormer resident of Gas
tonia, died Thursday night at 11:40
in a Columbia hospital.
The Thompsons moved from Gas
i tonia to Columbia about ten years
j ago. Mr. Thompson operated the

operating a shoe shop at Fort Jack
soil, S. C.
