emswm) Mrs. P. D. Hern don, Editor Stag Dinner Given ByL.J. Morris, Jr. Lovell Jackson Morris, Jr. of Signal Mountain! Tenn., whose wedding to Miss Virginia Plonk took place Sunday afternoon, en tertained his gioomsmen with a T-boiie steak dinner in the pri vate dining room in the Cleveland Hotel, Shelhy. Sunday at one o'clock. A delicious lour course dinner was served. At this time' Mr. Morris pre sented gifts to his attendants. - Those making up the party were: Mr. L. J. Morris, Sr.. R. L. Plonk, Dr. Thorington, M. L. Har mon, Jr., Robert Hedges. J. O. Plonk, and W. L. Plonk. Jr. Miss Virginia Plonk Bridge Party Honoree Mrs. Ertle Powers entertained, with three tables of . bridge and one of. rook on Thursday after noon as a special courtesy to Miss Virginia PJonk, a much feted bride-elect of the week. The party rooms were charm ingly arranged with immense bouquets of mixed pastel shaded flowers. Interesting progressions of bridge and rook were played with Mrs. Hal Plonk carrying off top prize in bridge and Mrs. Hal Ward ' the most successful player in rook. Later in the afternoon covers were laid and the hostess was assisted in serving a frozen sal ad and sweet course with iced tea. The honoree was remembered with a gift in crystal and upon her arrival had 'been -^presented a corsage of pink carnations and gypsophllia. Margrace Woman's Club Holds Monthly Meeting .The Margrace Club held Its monthly meeting at the club house last Friday evening. Mrs. Buddy Medlin conducted the devotional and Mrs. C, W. Falls presided. , At the conclusion of the busi ness session, the hostesses, Mes dames Ben Horton, Floyd Gates and Ray Mullinax, served a pret ty refreshment plate consisting of potato salad, wafers, Spanish jcake with whipped cream and an | iced drink. Friendsh;p Clas* Met In Braclcett Home The Friendship Class of Grace Methodist Church held an in teresting meeting Tuesday night with Mrs. M. *C. Brackett, Mrs. Ruth Vlckers was co-hostess, "I Jove to tell the Story" was the opening song, this was fol lowed with prayer by Mrs. L. P. Price. The group sang, "Open my Eyes that I may see." A re sponsive reading on the Bible was led. . Mrs. Dan Huffstetler was the winner in ?he Bib> < uizz. Following the business meet ing the hostess served congealed fruit salad, with sandwiches pick les, crackers, cakes and punch. Miclcie Lynn Wins Citizenship Medal The D. A. R. citizenship medal given annually by the D. A. R. to the . Park .Grace School was a warded this year to Mick ie Lynn, fifth grade student. Mirkie Is the daughter of Mrs. Ruth Lynn. Mrs. Paul Hendricks and chil dren returned Friday from a visit of several weeks at Pawley's Is land. They expect to leave in two jvyeeks to join Dr. Hendricks in Birmingham, Ala. for the remain der of the summer. Jolly, Sr., announce the engagement of tfieir daughter, Doris Jea neiie, to Kenneth Oeorge Kiser, son of Mr. and Mrs, Tyree Heath Kiser, Sr., of Bessemer City. The wedding will be in September. Appliances PHONE 62 Cake Cutting Held For Plonk - Morris Party Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Plonk were hosts Saturday evening at a pret ty cake-cutting honoring their daughter, Miss Virginia Plonk, and her fiance, L. J. Morris, Jr. The home was decorSted throughout f or the occasion with beautiful floral arrangements, in the living room white, cream and red glads were used with charm ing effect, mixed arrangements of gladioli and larkspur were used in the gift room. The central de coration of the dining table was the large four tiered wedding cake, topped with minature fig ures of the bride and groom. Ex tending from the cake were the fortune ribbons which held . the wedding cymbals. Punch was served in the solari um by Mrs. Stokes Wright and Mrs. Joe Evans from a table de corated with daises, babies breath and on the opposite end a cluster of magnolias. ' ? Mr. and Mrs. Jay Patterson greeted guests at the front door. Mr. and Mrs. Packard Elliott of Shelby were in the gift room. Af ter the conventional first piece of ?cake had been cut by the bride and groom, the cake was cut and served by Miss Martha Plonk. Mrs. Billy Spake of Shelby and Miss Nan Jean Gantt assisted in the dining room. The guests were members of the wedding party, out-of-town guests, members of the two fami lies and a few close friends. O. E. S, Chapter Hear' Delegates Report Kings Mountain Chapter . No.1 123. Order of the Eastern Star held its regular meeting Friday night, June 13. at 8 o'clock. The Chapter opened in regular form by the Worthy Matron Louise Martin. The highlight of the meeting was reports from those who at tended Grand Chapter at Ralei gh. N. C., last week. Our Worthy Matron reminded FIRST BIRTHDAY: Johnny Queen, Jr., a on of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Queen, Bessemer City, Route 2 celebrated his first birth day Saturday, June 7. ?. Martha Plonk Accept Oregon College Post Miss Martha Plonk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Plonk, a mem ber of the faculty at University of West Virginia, has resigned effective July 18, to accept a sim ilar position at Oregon State College, Corvallis, Ore. Miss Plonk, a graduate of Wo man's College, University of North Carolina, will assume her new duties on September 1. She took graduate work at the Uni versity of Ohio. us our Worthy Grands would be with us on August 15. Mrs. Janie Kincaid asked the Ways and Means committee to meet at her house Monday at 4 o'clock. It was reported Mrs. Janette Roundtrees's daughter was in the Asheville Hospital with polio and would appreciate cards. Also cards were to be sent to Mr. L. C. Hord on York Road who Is quite ill. The meeting closed with the hostesses, Mr. and Mrs. C. X.< Gault, and Mrs. Sarah Darracott serving delicious refreshments consisting of sandwiches, cook iocs O House And Garden Club The House and Garden Club held It's annual luncheon meet ing Wednesday, June 11, at one o'clock at the Kings Mountain Country Club, the losing team being hostesses. The lounge was beautifully decorated with an arrangement of yellow and white gladiolus and shasta daisies and a lovely bouquet of mixed summer flow ers. In the private dining room the table was most attractive with a large straw hat filled with shasta daisies and berge mot The place cards were pack ages of seeds framed as minia ture flower prints. Hie seeds were a gift from Bridges Hard ware Company. On one end of the mantel a smaller straw hat was used, filled with garblandea, daisies and day lilies, and on the other end, there was a small farm scene. After the guests were assembled a delicious three - course luncheon was ser ved. Mrs. Aubrey Mauney welcom ed the winning team with a pert and original poem. Mrs. Ar nold . Klser, president, presided and reports were given on the State Convention In Raleigh and on the Inter-Club Council.
