Negro News By Mrs. Cannie Gordon 105 Carpenter Street The Star of Bethelhem Quartet of Baltimore, Md. will celebrate their tenth anniversary, and will have as guest artists the famous Royal Kings Quartet of Charlotte, N. C? Sunday, October 26th at <5:30 p. m. at Good Hope Presby terian Church, Kings Mountain, N. C. There, will also be other quartet groups present. The door will open at. 6:00 o'clock. Friday night where she has held a position. at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital since finishing nursing training at Good Samr-"hn Hos pital in Charlotte, N. C." The senior and junior usher board of St. Paul Methodist church met Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Viola Arr. After the devotional service, Mrs. Car rie Gordan, president, presided over the business sessiop. Busi ness items discued and.ean ness items were discussed and plans were made tp celebrate Halloween. Those present included Mrs. Lottie Means, president of the Junior Ushers: Rosa Lee Pressley, Annie Mae Pressley, Joe Starr, Dorothy Pressley and Quincy Starr. The Juniors were Mary Frances Hickman, Joe Ann Hick Man, Ralph James and Bernice James. Coca Cola and cookies Were served. T*he Woman's Society of Chris tian service of St. Paul Methodist Church met Sunday evening at 5 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Daisy L. Smith. The president. Mrs. Eu genia Brown, had charge of the devotional service. Mrs. Brown presided over the business ses sion. Plans were made for a week of prayer and self denial begin ning October 27 and continuing through the 31st. Those' who were present included Mrs, Maurice Quinn, Mrs. Fairy Bryant, Mrs. Janie Young, Mrs. Lottie Bell St owe and Mrs. Carrie Gordan. At the close of the meeting, punch and devils food cake were served. Mr3. Mary Jamerson. mother of Mrs. Sara Clark, is a patient at the Gastonia Hospital. A week service is being held at Galilee church. Monday night. Rev. A. W. Williams preached; Tuesday night, Rev. A. L. Alford will preach, he will also preach on Wednesday. Rev. Walden. pastor of Bynunt Chapel Church will preach Thursday. Rev. Murray, pastor of Ebernezcr and Rev. S. I. Clemmct will preach Friday. Each service will begin at 7:30 p. m. '?'he week service is leading up to the choosing of a team rally sponsored by the WSCS to close S"? .-lay night. Rev. Philip Roberts will speak. "Come and see' the team come in." The next meeting will be held BACK PROM KOREA? Cpl. Ken neth Robert Childers, above, has returned from U 1/2 months in Korea. Serving with Co. F. of the 15th Regiment 3rd Infantry Di vision. Cpl. Childers entered the service in January of '51. Hus band of Alda Faye Spearman Childers and son of Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Childers of route 2, Cpl. Childers expects a release from service this week. Prayer Services Planned Here October is Home Mission Em phasis month in the Presbyterian Church and the week of October 26 through November 2 has been set aside as the Week of Prayer and SelfOOenial for Home Mis sions. In addition to the regularly scheduled church services devoted to this cause the women of the First Presbyterian church have planned three midweek prayer services. These services are sche duled for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10:00 a. m. and will meet at the homes of Mrs. R. H. Webb. Mrs. C. D. Blanton, and Mrs. P. D. Patrick, respectively. The meeting at Mrs. Patricks on Friday will be followed by a coffee hour honoring the Rev. Carey Blake, one of the Home Missionaries of the Presbyterian church, who will be present for the meeting. November 13th at the homt of Mrs. Nany Tinslep. Mrs Lizzie Lee Blalock. Mrs. Magnolia O wens and Mrs. Margaret Leach will assist. The Mt. Zion Brotherhood club of the Mt. Zion First Baptist church of Kings Mountain cele brated its 2nd anniversary Sun day, October 19th at 2:30. The sermon was preached by the pas tor, Rev. R. L. Gorvin, who took as his theme "Facing New Tasks". Music was furnished by the Mt. Zion Jr. Choir and the Mt. Pleasant Jr. Choir of Besse mer City. . Visiting Brotherhood clubs were Mt. Pleasant, from Besse mer City; Mt. Calvery Brother hood club, from Gastpnia; and Langram Branch Brotherhood club, from York, S. C.. Collection for the evening was $136.21. By popular demand the Daw kins Brothers of Shelby, Nr. C. and The Friendly Five of Kings Moun tain, N. C.
