SCHOOL NEWS
SAFETY PROGRAM
By Elizabeth Huffstickler
Seventh Grade
On Wednesday. October 29. the"
Elementary Department of Cen
tral School had the privilege of
hearing Mr. Herbert S. Thompson
of Charlotte, North Carolina
speak about the safety of -chil
dren. Mr. Thompson is the Cen
eral Safety Supervisor of the
Southern Railway.
He showed lis a film called "On
The Tracks." After the dim Mr.
Lane, the srhool principal, pre
sented him. lie told us about chil
dren who were killed while play,
ing on the tracks and in boxcars.
He emphasized the importance of
crossing Tailroads only at "paved
crossings and to stop and look
both ways before crossing. He al
so said that when you have to
wait for a train to pass to wait
long enough to see if another
train is coming. He said that
children should stay off the
tracks. Each pupil was given a
pamphlet entitled "Safety Is The
Key That Unlocks The Door To
Your Future."
We enjoyed the talk very much.
