Meets With Mrs. Abbott
The Rebecca Long Circle of the
First Baptist Church met Monday
night with Mrs. L. E. Abbott.
Thirteen members were present,
Mrs. Willlard Compton was wel
comed as a new member.
Mrs. Abbott, circle leader, open
ed the meeting with paryer and
presided during the routine busi
ness.
Mrs. W. W. Souther, program
leader for the month, gave the
devotional and was assisted by
Mrs. J. K. Willis In presenting a
very interesting program on
"Love".
Mrs. Willis asked the circle to
hold their December meeting with
her.
Alter the meeting a social peri
od was enjoyed, Mrs. Abbott serv
ed a dessert course with coffee
and nuts.
Mr. and Mrs. C. McConnell of
Charlotte spent Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. S. R. Davidson.

with Miss Marie Lineberger.
Mrs. Peele, chairman of the cir
cle, presided over the meeting.
The devotional period and pro
gram was conducted by Miss Lela
Clark and Miss Grace Davis. The
program was on, "Interpellation
of Love".
Mrs. Grier McDanlel Invited the
circle to meet with her tor the
December meeting.
A social hour was enjoyed and

Magnolia Garden Club was held
Friday afternoon with Mrs. David
Neill.
Mrs. D. F. Hord, Jr. gave an
interesting program on Garden
Designs.
Thanksgiving fruit arrange
ments were made by Mrs. Bill
Page and Mrs. Jimmie Spivey.
Mrs. Neill used chrysanthe
mums, nandlna and pyracantha
berries for her room decorations.
At the close of the meeting re
freshments of orange date cake
topped with whipped cream was
served with coffee and cheese
wafers.
Macedonia WMS Met With
Mrs. O. T. Gunnells
The' WMS of Macedonia Bap
tist Church met in. the home of
Mrs. O. T. Gunnells Monday with
ten members present.
Mrs. Carl Herndon opened the
meeting with prayer. Miss "Dut
ch" Cloninger conducted the de
votional. '
During the business session
several items 'of business were
discussed, minutes of the previous
meeting were read. Those taking
part on the program were Mrs.
Joyce Hayes, Mrs. James Bolln,
Mrs. Bud Falls, Miss Peggy Gun
nells, Mrs. Ruby Stroup, Mrs. J.
E. Dover and Mrs. Carl Herndon.
At the close of the meeting de
licious refreshments were served
by the hostess.

Fisher was hostess to Circle No.
6, Central Methodist Church, at

were present, including two visi
tors, Mrs. C. A. Butterworth and
Mrs. Etters.
The meeting opened with devo
tlona'ls by Mrs. Mildred Wright,

Good News" was presented in a
most interesting manner by Mrs.
C. A. Butterworth. In conclusion
Mrs. W. L. Thornburg read a call

chairman. Mrs. Y. F. Thronburg,
who has just returned home from
the hospital, the co-chairman,
Mrs. .T. W. Grayson, presided
over the business session. Mem
bers were urged by Mrs. Butter
worth to attend the general meet
ing, of the WSCS. Minutes of the
last meeting were read by Mrs.
Baxter Payseur, and dues collect
ed by Mrs. C. J. Gault, Jr. It was
decided that the members would
bring a gift for a needy family
to fill a basket at the December
meetingi which is to be held at
the home of Mrs. Y. F. Throne
burg, also inexpensive gifts to be
exchanged among themselves.
The hostess served open faced
sandwiches of cream cheese and
olives, home-made coconut cake,
and coffee.
Methodist Youth Revival
To Be Held In Gastonia
A Youth Revival, sponsored by
the Gastonia Sub-District of the
Methodist Youth Fellowship, will
be held at Myrtle Methodist
Church, Gastonia, N. C., begin
ning Cunday night (Nov. 16) and
running through Thursday night
(Nov. 20) each evening at 7:30 p.
m. There will be a different pas
tor delivering the service each
evening, also special music. Rev.
Phil Shore, of Central, Kings
Mountain, will preach on Tuesday
evening, and the MYF here will
provide special music.
On Thursday night, a short bus
iness session will be held before
the service, with roll call. A year's
subscription to "Concern" will be
given the group with the largest
attendance based on enrollment
in their church.
Visitors are welcome.

Scouts of America, announced to
day that William A. Murphy,
Agent in Charge, Carolines Dis
trict of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, will be the princi
pal speaker at the banquet meet
ing of the annual Scouter-Cubber
"Round-UP" to be held at Gard
ner-Webb College on Tuesday, No
vember 18. Mr. Murphy will speak
on the importance of character
training in crime prevention.
The Scouter-Cubber "Round
Up" will bring together several
hundred or more leaders and wor
kers in the program of the Boy
Scouts 'of America -from the
Counties of Alexander, Burke,
Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland,
Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, McDo
well, Polk and Rutherford. Assem
bly will be at the auditorium of
the College at four o'clock. Fol
lowing an orientation period each
County District will hold a group
meeting to jliscuss the program
in the District and to adopt goals
for 1953 in the Three Year Pro
gram of the Boy Scouts of Ameri
ca. Following the County meet
ings, group dlscusslQnal meetings
will be held for Scoutmasters,
Cubmasters, Committeemen,
Commissioners, and operating
Committees. An open forum meet
ing of the Executive Board of the
Council will be held and the busi
ness of the Council transacted.
