MRS. WOOD BOONE RAWLES Miss Mary Joyce Johnston Weds Mr. Rawles In Home Ceremony Miss Mary Joyce Johnston of Shelby became the bride of Wood Boone Rawles of Kings Mountain in a charming home ceremony marked with simplicity and rev erence at the home of the bride's parents on West Warren street at four-thirty o'clock in the af ternoon on Saturday, August twenty-second. The Reverend I. M. Brendle, pastor of Sulphur Springs Metho dist church officiated with the Impressive double ring service. Simulated Altar A simulated altar was created at the mantelpiece at the east end of the ceremony room for the exchange of vows. A peaked, oblong design of all-white asters and gladioli was posed on the center of the mantelboard, re flecting in the gold-leaf mirror above, flanked by peaked lighted white candles in three branched crystal candleholders, completing the lovely setting. Pastel flowers, predominantly roses, were ap pointed elsewhere in* the cere mony room, adding to the decor. The Bride The bridal couple entered the ceremony room and approached the altar together and unattend ed. The bride, a striking brunette, was beautiful in her chosen wed ding ensemble. The slate blue street - length frock of pure silk faille was smartly fashioned with a portrait neckline modified with side points, the two points starred with large jeweled clusters in vari -shades of blue and the slim skirt was accented with mock-inverted pockets at the hipline. Her lattice cloche of navy blue velvet was embroidered with rhinestoijes and trimmed with noseveillng and her other accessories were also navy blue. Crescent earrings of vari shaded blue stones matching the clusters on her dress completed her costume and her flowers were arranged Into a formal hand bouquet with tuberoses and ma line encircling an all-white cym bidum. Background The new Mrs. Rawles, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gibson Johnston, also of Shelby, a graduate of the Shelby High School and attended Anderson College, Anderson, South Caro lina. Horndon, Editor Miss Bernice Harrison Feted With Party And Shower Miss Bernice Harrison, bride elect was feted at a lovely party and miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. Sam Hamrick and Misses Peggy and Hazel Colnlnger at the Hamrick home on Gaston street Thursday night. Miss Harrison wore a low cut black, taffeta dress with match ing stole. Mrs. Eddie Campbell, a recent bride, shared honors, she had selected a grey fall dress for the affair. Each were given car nation corsages by the hostesses; An air of festivity was formed by utilizing exquisite arrange ments of marigolds and zinnias in the living room, den and din ing room. Bridal games were played and later refreshments of green and white block ice cream and indi vidual !cakes decorated with wed ding bells were served with fruit punch. Climax. of the evenings enter tainment was reached with show ering Miss Harrison with gifts, which she opened and exhibited. Mrs. . Campbell was given china in her chosen pattern. Capacity Crowd Sunday At Woman's Club A capacity crowd attended the dinner Sunday at the Woman's club sponsored by the Interna tional Relations department of the Woman's Club. Proceeds from the dinner will be used to support the projects of the department. Mrs. Willis, chairman, stated she wished to thank the public for the hearty cooperation given in making the first dinner an outstanding suc cess. The department is planning to serve another dinner on Sunday, September 27. Mrs. Charles Thomasson Bridge Club Hostess Mrs. Jacob Mauney, Mrs. J. H. Arthur and Miss Marion Arthur Joined members of the Twin Table Bridge Club for their meeting Tuesday night at the Country Club with Mrs. Charles Thomas son as hostess. When the ladies arrived, they assembled in the living room where the floral accent was plac ed on lovely bouquets of mixed summer flowers. Tables were ap pointed for refreshments, a very tempting fresh fruit salad with accessories and a dessert course was served with ice tea. Four progressions of bridge were played. Scores were tallied and prizes given Miss Marion Ar thur for scoring high for visitors. Mrs. P. D. Herndon and Mrs. H. C, Mayes carryed off club prizes. les of Kings Mountain, is a gradu ate of Kings Mountain High School and attended the Universi ty of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During World War II he served with the United States Army Air Corps, seeing duty in the European Theater. He is now employed with the Lee Construc tion Company, presently working at Spartanburg, South Carolina. Following a brief mountain wed ding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Rawles are at home with the bride's pa rents at 610 West Warren street. Members of the two immediate families were present to witness the charming ceremony. Misses Josephine and Jacque line Mull of Morganton spent the weekend with Miss Hallie Ward.
