He is charged with a criminal ?assault on Betty Anderson, four ^ear-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Anderson. Witnesses, who testified for the wtate, told the court that Melton had been asked to stay at the ^Anderson home with the child *or half-an-hour, while her father svas out. Martin Rites Conducted Funeral services for James Herndon Martin, 39, resident of Blacksburg, S. C., were conducted Monday at 3 P- m. from the First Baptist church of Blacksburg. Rev. J. T. Stokes, the pastor of ficiated, assisted by Rev. Ray mond Dobbins. Interment was in the Mountain View cemetery. Mr. Martin succumbed Satur day in Blacksburg. He died from injuries sustained in * two-car collision near Chesnee, S. C., on Thursday. He was a native of Cherokee County, S. C., and was formerly employed by Margracp Mills here. He was employed by Southern | Railway Co. ' Mr. .Martin was the nephew of J. K. Herndon of Kings Mountain and a brother-in-law of Mrs. D. II. Bla look, also of Kings Moun tain. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Shirley Moss Martin; two sons. James Herndon, Jr., and George Herndon, of the home; seven daughters. Mrs. Thomas Ham bright. Fayetteville, Shirley Ann, Jane, Diane, Mary Alice, Marga ret. and Flora, all of the home. Also surviving are his father, Thomas Martin, Blacksburg, S. C., a brother, Thomas Martin, Jr., Spartanburg, S. C., and three sis ters, Mrs. Miles Wilson, Winston Salem. Miss Mary Martin, Blacks burg, S. C., and Mrs. Chlvous Spratt, Marlon.
