...but more farm telephones
Sincc the end of World War II, rural telephone
construction has surged ahead at a record-breaking
pace. Today over half a million rural phones are
served by Southern Bell, and new ones are going
in at the rate of 6,500 a month.
This record of rural progress is even more
amazing when you consider that the South's farm
population has actually decreased, largely due to
mechanized and more efficient farming methods.
But farmers need and use the telephone more
than ever before. That's why providing them more
and oetter service is one of our most important jobs.
