Members of Shiloh Presbyterian Are Conducting Study of Psalms GROVER ? Members of the Shlloh Presbyterian church will study the Psalms 139, 103, 23, 51, 22, 42, 8 and 147, In that or der, at the prayer service on Wednesday from 5:30-6:20, 7:00 8:00. Everyone is invited to come and bring a covered dish for aupper at 6:30. Several Irom Shiloh- Presby terian church attended the Cen tral District Rally for the Senior High Fellowship at the First Presbyterian church in Gastonia on Sunday afternoon. Among those going were Rev. Park Moore and Misses Faye House* and Catherine Hambright The Rev. Park Moore will foe on Presbytery business part of this week. Youth Conference di rector on Tuesday, and the Mid Winter Council meeting of the S. H F- Friday and Saturday. Ellis Tate, a student at A. S. T. C., Boone, spent the weekend with his parents. Mrs. Rick Rollins of Akron, Ohio, has returned home after visiting relatives here recently. Miss Ethel Martin visited her sister, Mrs. W. C. Brown, and Mr. Brown nt Spartanburg recently. Mi.v< Inez Davis and Little Ro uert Harry visited Mrs. Holmes Harry and Brice Harry at Warm Springs, Georgia, recently. They made the trip by plane. Montgomery. Billy Montgomery who is em ployed with the Fulton Pipe Line Construction Co in Von, New Mexico, telephoned his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Leonard Gamble) At the FT A meeting held Mon day night at Bethware school, Mr. Frank Summers, president of the First National hank in Kings Mountain, was speaker. He spoke on "banking." A large crowd was present. At this meeting a committee was appointed to plan a Fall Festival which will he held Sat urday, December 12. at the school. Each room will present their own stunt or fund - raising project. Proceeds vttli go towards purchasing an "activity ihus" for the schooL The public is invited to come. Supper will be served consisting of chicken pie, oys ters and desserts. * Tuesday night the directors of the Men's Progressive club met at Bethware. The regular meet ing will be the 15th and will be "family night" . / . Each Wednesday night there will toe choir practice at El Be thel church. Thad Barber will toe in charge of this. Thursday evening at 4 p. m. Rev.. Boyce Huffstetler conducted an inspiring Thanksgiving ser vice at El Bethel church. Thanks giving decorations were used as the center motif with an open Bible behind the decorations. Last Wednesday at noon time the F. H. A, club of Bethware sur prised Miss Betty Sue Rotoerts with a miscellaneous shower held in the Home Economic room. Colas and cookies were served after which Miss Rotoerts, the Home Economics teacher, was presented a large box of gifts. Miss Rotoerts was married Friday at 6 p. m. in the Elizabeth church to Johnnie Gamble. A Thanksgiving dmner of tur key and all the trimmings was served the school children at Bethware Wednesday. A Sigurd Rascher, the greatest virtuoso the saxophone has ever known, and the Davidson Collect Concert Band. will present three Joint recitals in this area this coming Thursday and Friday. Rascher and the Davidson band will apear Thursday at 2:00 p m at the Mooresville High Schooi and at 8:00 p. m. at Appalachian State Teachfers College in Boone and then present their final reci tal at 8:15 p. m. in Chambers Au ditorium on the Davidson College campus. Kenneth R. Moore, assistant professor of music at Davidson announced today that the pro gram would include Mendels sohn's "Overture for Band," "Death and Transfiguration", Maurice Whitney's ''Introduction tnd Samba", Sousa's "King Cot ton March", "Fuge in F minor" by Gould-Allred, and Glazunov's "Concerto for Saxophone." Rascher has received critical guests were Mr and Mrs. T. Horace Grigg of Shelby and members of the school board of education and their wives. Barbara Gamble spent the hol idays in Shelby with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Warren. Pvt. William Brown Harmon has Just spent a seven-day leave here with his wife and parents, Mr- and Mrs. J. D. Harmon, He is now on the way to Europe. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Cash re cently announced the birth of a baby daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., returned there Friday after visiting here during the holidays with Mr. Smith's mother, Mrs. i N. Smith. Luther McSwain. Jr., spent the holidays here from college with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. McSwain. The official board of El Bethel met Wednesday night after choir practice at El Bethel chur ch on Saturday before the Har vest Festival for the church was held. The group reported being well pleased with this and made plans for another year. Mr. and Mrs. Horace McSwain and family of Mooresboro spent the holidays here with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Mc Swain. Bethware will meet Boilings Springs in a basketball game here tonight. Bethware -is very proud of a new time clock pur chased for the gym. Mr. and Mm. P*rry McSwain returned home over the weekend from spending a vacation in Florida where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lovelace and Mr *nd Mrs. L. V. .Hoyle. Mr^ and Mrs. Herbert Gamble and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fisher returned to Miami, Fla., Satur day after coming especially for the wedding of Miss Betty Sue Rooerts and Johnnie Gamble son of thfe Herbert Gamble's! which took place Friday night at Elizabeth church. Mrs. Fisher \n honorary bridesmaid While here they were guests of their father and other relatives acclaim all over the world in more than two decades of classi cal concerts. Much of his time is spent in traveling all over the United States and Canada to play for school bands and to demonstrate the possibilities of the saxophone to band masters and college mu sic faculties. To him public per formance is not an act of self display. His work is completely governed by two responsibilities. The first he feels towards his instrument which he has raised, i more than anyone else, to the equal of any of the aristocrats of . the concert stage, and thfc second is an effort to combine his idea of what the saxophone should be with his feeling for people. There will be a small admis sion charge for the Davidson Col lege performance. Tickets will be on sale before the concert Friday night in the Lobby of Chambers Building. Fall is the best season to transplant shrubs and trees.
